Oh no!  How very sad!  What a cute bird it was.  I'm sorry its parents couldn't give it a good start in life, due to the harsh winter.   Sad

pcarey2786 (patsy6): Elevator went down & got stuck in shaft soon after my last tweet. It got unstuck at about 11:45. Walked to Radisson - no falcons in  shaft.

If a Falcon was sitting on a ledge in the elevator shaft and the elevator moved, could the Falcon get hurt or fall into the shaft and not be able to get out? Just wondering if anyone would know.

Not likely.  If the elevator started up, a falcon could quickly exit. Just the noise of the gears would be plenty of warning. The falcons can enter and leave the elevator shaft whether the elevator is up or down. It is an outside elevator, so there is no shaft to fall into.

I was concerned because the elevator was stuck actually in the shaft, just a few feet down from the top.  Don't know if it got stuck on the way down or on the way up, though.  When I tweeted at 10:15 it was all way up at the top of the shaft, in its normal position.

Well said, all.  I'm sorry it has to end this way, but at least SW is not suffering.   Sad

A visitor this afternoon

Thanks, Shaky.  I thought we might see one or both at the nestbox today, as both spent a good deal of time under the TSB wings.

Veteran has disappeared for days on end before, although not at the same time as another male has appeared.  I'll bet he's fine and just biding his time.

Shame on the people on that condo board and shame on the person from the DEC who made that decision!  Are they idiots?  It won't harm the "baby birds" because they have "flown the coop?"  What about next year's "baby birds?"  And the year after that, and after that, etc.?

My thoughts exactly, Donna.  And thanks for the article, Kris.  I didn't realize that DDT wasn't banned in Australia until 1987, several years after it was banned here in the US.

Also praying that having other two eggs be uncovered for 25 minutes didn't cause any harm.

Thanks, Kris.  It looks like the raptor painting workshop is going to be taught by the same person who painted the falcon picture in the aqueduct.
