The "Canyon" in Utica sure seems to be a popular spot for falcons. Astrid and Ares have had a lot of trouble with intruders in the last few years.

 

It's wonderful that they drove the owl back to where the accident occurred, so he or she would be in familiar territory when released. That's what I call going the extra mile, or 300.

 

This is a new one! He was out on deck for a while...I guess he thought she was going to get up!

Looks like he's checking up on her now, making sure she's doing it right.

I saw Lucky perched next to it for a bit. Perhaps he took it away.

Come to think of it, DC was the same age at Orion's hatching that Aria is now. He didn't have a clue.

The rule at peregrine nests is that the mother bird is totally in charge.  The father bird defers to her.

A corollary is that the mother bird is always present and in charge at hatching time.  She calls all the shots, including timing of the first feeding.

The father bird may communicate that he wants something to be different but it's her decision.  When Hope tells Terzo, "It's my turn to be on the nest!" he has to leave.  When he tells her "An egg is hatching" she takes over.  This is the way of the peregrine.

Remember when DC watched (Orion) (?) hatch? He didn't call Beauty and he was kinda surprised!!

Yep, and here is the moment, showing DC's "deer in the headlights" look. True, he didn't call for Beauty, but I believe she was on Mercury and he was looking right at her, as if to say "I didn't break it! Honest!"
