Anything Else / Totally OT / Scaffold on Aqueduct Building 3

You may notice scaffolding on the river side of one of the buildings in the Aqueduct Complex (or the Thomson Reuters building, as the falcon watchers call it) for the next few days. If you're looking from across the river, the scaffolding is below and to the left of Mercury, so it may bother the birds a bit. It's not window washers. The workers are repairing damage to some of our "ribbon" windows that was sustained during Hurricane Sandy.

"Just when we had had just about enough, she worked her Back almost reaching the nest box ledge, and them at 9:15pm she fell and was into the air! Quest immediately took flight to join her in the air as Luna flew eastbound across the face of the nest building. During her decent, Quest managed to get under her in flight and bumped and guided her from beneath slowing her decent and allowing her to gain a few critical feet upwards and they both landed on a window ledge on the west elevation of 240 Duncan Mill road, about half way up. While not a great landing, (kind of like using the back of the window ledge as a stopper), Luna clung to back wall upside down hooked on the face of the concrete wall with a single talon. Seconds later she finally freed herself and fell a few feet to the window ledge and righted herself. Quest was right beside her." Daughter like mother. Mariah did this with Isaura when she flew back to the Kodak Tower from across the river. It was her first day of flying and she was exhausted. Mariah stayed below her and gently "bumped" her from below, giving her the strength to make it back to the top of the Kodak Tower. Something I will never forget. Good job Quest! What lovely descriptions of the power of maternal instincts. From Mariah with Isaura to Quest with Luna. Perhaps Luna will have to do that when she becomes a mom. She knows how now.

(Sage) CT All kids have fledged! It's a beautiful day for flying lessons and they are paying attention, and fly very well! One at BACK corner of rear arch flew to front, walked up and down arch, then flew to join another atop the back clock. Another was on a tower ledge, took off and flew with parent! Afternoons are generally more quiet, nap times, but come out for a good show this evening! Pix coming...
Wonderful news! Thanks, Sage.

I wish SOMEONE would tell us if they will be banded, and when. Has anyone been in touch with the DEC and/or June Summers? I think at least the watchers have a right to know this.
I sent a PM to Carol a while ago expressing my concerns too. The window to band is said to be between 22-27 days of age and Orion was banded at 23 days old. Many members are getting concerned that banding may not take place and there's also a concern that the eyasses are starting to explore outside the box. Can one of the Mods, Administrators, June Summers give members of the Forum an answer as to what's going on so we don't have to continue worrying about what might or might not happen? I received word last night (just read it now) that the banding will take place in the next day or two. We don't know if it's this afternoon (Tuesday) or tomorrow morning (Wednesday). Anxious to hear! Thanks. I miss banding's like the good old MK days. We had a lot of fun and everyone got involved. The world just got too fast! Right you are, Donna! I was excited for days prior to The Event. Thank you, Shaky!
