Sharing a comment I made on the NJ site...
I admire Cadence & NJ dad through this stressful nesting season. They have been through a lot. Dad doesn't have a name, so I'm going to call him "Kildare" even though I know it dates me. L0L.
Dad did the right thing removing the eyases, even though I wished they could have been examined. Cadence & Kildare will bounce back. I hope they get to truly bond with each other now.
Yep, I can see a bit of Richard Chamberlain in him.

I'm saddened that Cadence and her mate lost both of their offspring. It's hard to not be emotional, but I am grateful I got see her become a mom. Cadence is a survivor, and will soar the skies of NJ with pride. I will think of Cadence and remember her as a juvie when I fledge watch our 3 eyases this year.
This pic of Cadence and her eyas resting against her was taken yesterday.

Third try to feed the baby and he's not interested. That's not good. I've been home 4.5 hours and he shows no interest in food. Just sitting up with head straight up and eyes closed or like laying straight down in the gravel Looks like this one isn't going to make it either..so very sad for her. She's been so attentive to him the past 3 days, she's really coming into her own as a mother despite all the challenges. I can't help but wonder if they shouldn't have dosed him for Trich as well now, didn't want to entertain that thought earlier. OMG, this is so very sad.

P.S.-I haven't been following closely, but I did watch the video-we've seen those dark spots here too. It's the very early signs of the feathers starting to develop. It seems to be more obvious when the weather is hot rather than cool-it was VERY obvious on Orion who hatched so late.
You'll also see the dark spots in the wing-pits.
Thanks Kitty. I knew about the wing pits. I guess I just never noticed it before on other babies in the chest area. Someone had told me that black on the chest can be a sign of parasites. I"m just being paranoid as usual because the baby looked fine in SGB's video...helicopter mom Cadence and her brothers all had the dark spots under the wings and some also on the chest, and one of them often fell over on his or her back, too. I think that was Bronx. Remember the big discussion about it on BCAW two years ago? They all turned to be okay, at least until fate caught up with the boys.

True that Donna. Mind you the way that ledge is, i might just open the door a crack and put him out there on the ground by the door quickly. Then he can run up the ramp to home. Might be worth risking, could do it later in the evening after they've settled then the kids won't have a visual of the door and by the time they got up and out on deck - the door would be closed and no human in sight.
Yes! Tim's ramp to the rescue again. Sounds like a good idea.

I can't believe there haven't yet been any postings for 2017 for the Utica cam. At least I couldn't find a new topic for it.
Anyway, here goes. Astrid and Ares have four babies this year. It looks like as in past years, they won't be banded unless they get grounded and sustain an injury that requires rehab. However, they have been named. Here's a post from today from Facebook:
Our chicks have names! A big thank you goes out to everyone who participated. After careful consideration of over 400(!) name submissions, the committee chose the following names: Chick #1 is Spirit, first submitted by Mary Lynn Linstruth. Chick #2 is Maximus, submitted by Betty Blanchard. Chick #3 is Zander, submitted by Carol Farrell. And, finally, Chick #4 is Luna, first submitted by Theresa White. Some names were submitted more than once, but, as always, the winner if the name is chosen is the first person to submit the name. Winners will be awarded their t-shirts on Saturday, June 17th during fledge watch. We will contact winners individually with additional information.
