From Democrat & Chronicle To kill a cormorant http://on.rocne.ws/2cj1oMTKathryn Adams Orbanek was boating with friends in Irondequoit Bay one early evening recently, when she found herself smack in the middle of a confrontation between man and beast.“We were slowing down and heard 'Boom!' A woman said 'I think it's fireworks.' I said, 'It's broad daylight. It's not fireworks.'”As she looked toward a nearby island close to the bay’s eastern shore, she saw a boat carrying several men. At least one of them held a shotgun.“He was shooting up at these birds,” recalled Orbanek, who lives in Webster. “They were flying around. There were dozens of them.“It seemed so unsafe. It was six o'clicku in the evening; that would be a peak boating time. People just leave work and hit the water,” she said. “Guns, boats, birds. It just seemed insane to me. Thanks, Jeanne! I'll be there. Rochester area watchers should come. These Big Shots are quite fun, and you can meet some interesting people who share a love of photography and of Rochester landmarks. This Big Shot will evoke lots of stories and opinions, I'm sure. I've done the one at Seabreeze and the one at High Falls. All you have to do is wear dark clothing and bring some source of hand-held light, such as a flashlight or your phone. You'll be directed as to where to stand, what to do and when to do it.

June???? Crikey, did I miss a post?? That boy has been hanging around that long?? I usually read any news about our past/present kids but I missed the June post on Genesee! Great news though!! Yep, check out Imprints from July 2 reporting the sighting on the Greece cell tower from June 30.

I'd like to express my thanks to Dana, who first spotted Genesee on the cell tower in Greece in June and shared her photos with us, Dick, who spotted Genesee on the Coast Guard radio tower last Friday, Carol, who spotted him there yesterday, and Joyce, who shared her photos with us yesterday.
This is just another example of how 2015 was a year that none of the Rochester watchers will soon forget. First and foremost was the tragic loss of Bronx. Then there was the lovely Cadence, who introduced her parents to the Powers Building nestbox and went to jail at the Crossroads Building. And Genesee, the boy who stayed with Mom and Dad well into the fall, and either came back in the spring or never left. I hope he stays, meets a girl and settles down here, so we can meet Beauty and Dot.ca's grandchildren some day.

Second egg! Unfortunately mama Diamond seems to be really struggling when laying. If you check out the clip I posted with the first egg, you'll see that her labor was long, and apparently egg #2 was even worse. Poor thing. I hope she continues to do okay afterward.
Second egg for 2016 running on time Published 30 August, 2016 | By Scott Banks Diamond’s second egg arrived at around 11.21am this morning (Tuesday AEST), with plenty of painful effort and quite some regurgitation. Diamond is not finding this stage at all easy, but she’s doing really well and both eggs appear to be in good condition. Video clips to come…
