Donna,
BettyAnn replied to your question about fixing the roof cam! We're getting sound too!
Yes Donna: The roof cam is scheduled to get fixed or replaced very soon and a microphone added to the nest cam. We will keep you posted!

The last few years she spent more time laying down than standing so I'm thinking she's at peace now and free from pain. I can't even imagine how she stood the record breaking temperatures we've had the past few weeks..it's minus 33 here this morning with the wind chill. I'm so glad she was found and given over to Linda, who has watched over her and her offspring for the past 15 years.
Erin would have been 20 years old this May...she lived longer than any female in the wild that I know of and she managed to keep her territory to the very end. She really is, as MAK said, a 'legend'!

Canadian Peregrine Foundation
It is with great sadness that we must report the loss of our dear Erin at the 18 King Street East nest site after ruling the skies at here for the past 15 years. On December 30th, Toronto Police discovered Erin deceased on the sidewalk on Adelaide St. just east of Toronto St. late in the evening. Toronto Animal Services was called to the scene and the officer on duty retrieved and delivered her to Linda at which time her identity was positively confirmed. Erin is now currently resting at the CPF Raptor Centre in Woodbridge.
Erin was hatched in Wisconsin in 1998 and was discovered nesting in Toronto in 2003 paired up with Windwhistler who hatched at the Etobicoke Sunlife Centre. Together they produced 37 offspring of which many have gone on, and still carry on, having fantastic breeding careers of their own.
Tiago - hatched 2005 now at Toronto Sheraton - her son. Malik - hatched 2010 now at Canada Square - her son. Stormin' - hatched 2010 now at King St - her grandson and current mate. Legacy - hatched 2009 now at St Mary's - her grandson. Ossie - hatched 2011 now at Hamilton Sheraton - her grandson. Athena - hatched 2010 now at Stoney Creek - her granddaughter. Ariel - hatched 2013 now at Mount Sinai - her great granddaughter. Simcoe - hatched 2012 now at Oshawa Hospital - her great grandson. Louise - hatched 2016 positioning herself to potentially take a site in Wisconsin or neighboring state. - her granddaughter.
This is just a short top-of-my-head list of Erin's family out there thriving today. Many have come and gone already and have left their mark on the world. Erin's young that have had incredibly successful careers before they were cut short are:
Hurricane at William Osler Hospital Ely in Ohio Dougal in London Sir Adam in Burlington Kendal at Harlequin And the list goes on and on...
Erin was one of the most influential peregrines to have ever graced the skies of Toronto as proven by her living legacy today. She was so beautiful. So many birds that have lived and thrived as a result of Erin's nesting successes that at last count number over 143 genetically connected individuals. Thank you Erin for all that you have given us for the past 15 years, you will be forever and dearly remembered by all of us.

New female checking out the nest box on her own.
Wonder what happened to Lil Dad and Niecey? Strange for a nest change at this time of year, isn’t it? Lil Dad has migrated the past few years. He usually leaves around the start of December and only goes for around 6-8 weeks or so. I'm not sure you can call it a migration - maybe a vacation in Florida or somewhere warmer so he can rest up for another year. This male came in last year when Lil Dad left and was dispatched once Dad came home. There was an unbanded female seen after Lil Dad came home last year - so maybe 38/S and her hooked up and tried to nest elsewhere in the area. They certainly seem bonded, I watched and listened to them and they don't seem to be strangers to each other. Niecey and her may have had a skirmish but if this unbanded girl is this males mate - then she may have backed off realizing it's 2 against 1. She could be lying low until Dad is back and then they can move back in. We'll just have to wait now for this to play out but Lil Dad is one tough little tiercel and he knows this territory inside out and Niecey is a strong female so it's too early to say what will happen. It's different this time in that this pair seems bonded - so a bit harder to predict than past years when they only had one to dispatch at a time.
