She looks much better today, to me anyway.  Let's hope this next egg does better and is easier for her.

A falcon just came in to sit on the egg. Pretty darn sure I saw a black/red band!

It's her behavior that is more concerning.  Tiago came in with food and she didnt' respond at all, she's just standing there barely moving. 

Bad news, one egg has been destroyed.  RM standing there in a trance, she turned down food from Tiago as well.  Please keep an eye out when you can.  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the update Carly!  Maybe RM didn't want to use the nest tray this year, for some reason?  She's a wise ole girl and I think she knows exactly what she's doing.   

I am inclined to agree with that assessment, she is an experienced mother and a good one! 

Egg #2 arrived at 8.48 - she is perched on the edge of the nest box and bent over and out it came.  Right next to Egg #1. 

I thought it was safe to go to the kitchen because she seemed to be napping after her meal and here she goes and lays her egg and I missed it..lol!

 

Well at least we have an egg.  I hope RM is okay too.  In all my excitement at seeing an egg I didn't realize Terka had another shot of her right before she laid it and she was standing in the box.  It's been a strange week.

That nest box is old, perhaps it's not solid anymore.  I know at MEC before they put in a new one last year, the bottom actually fell out.  Perhaps they know something we're not seeing on cam.

But you're right..the ledge is all gravel and at least it's protected there with the box on the side blocking the wind.  Just threw me off ... these falcons like to keep us on our toes. 

Rhea Mae laid her egg outside the nest box.  She just got up and it's right beside the box on the ledge!!

Well...at least it's where we can see it!

For the past few days, both ignored the nest box after her spending many nights in it or beside it.  Then last night she rediscovered it.  I also saw her laying down at the far end yesterday for awhile.  This morning both at far end perched looking out.  They don't seem anxious or anything - meaning not reacting as if there is an intruder, it's puzzling but they don't seem to have the sense of urgency for eggs that we do anymore.  Unless something is going on at an adjacent site - maybe that has their attention.
