NEW ADULT. This image was just captured on the Hamilton nest ledge. Green band over black. This new bird is closely associating with Ossie already, suggesting that it is a new female. This naturally leads to the question, "where is Madame X?" We would ask that people not post speculations and guesses. We all know what this could mean. MX could be either driven off or possibly down and injured. So if anyone living around the downtown area (really, most locations from the water front to the mountain) want to go for a stroll and keep an eye out for an injured falcon, please feel free to do so. If you find a bird down, please call Hamilton Animal control, and e-mail our contact address on our website. Thanks!

Hamilton, say hello to Ossie! Based upon a slightly blurry look at leg bands this afternoon, we have tentatively identified the new male at the Hamilton nest as a bird that was banded in 2012 at the William Osler Hospital in Etobicoke. His parents were Hurricane (male) and Chessie (female). This is "tentative" until we can get a clearer look at the bands, to be sure that the upper character is the letter "O" and not the number "0" (or something else), as it is the former that identifies him as Ossie. So for now, that's what we'll be calling him. Welcome to Hamilton, Ossie!

She was just waiting for all the snow to be cleared out before she joined him in the nest box....can't mess up that pedicure 

I have to share this here.  Just when we were all worried about Erin...today ljames over at BCAW caught Stormin bringing her food, she was laying at the far end and she 'ran' down the ledge to get it.  Here is the link to the page as they aren't my photos but I am so happy to see this!

Now that was a "perk her up"!! Good news but.....

I know Donna, she's older and we dont' know what the future brings but at least she still has her appetite so we know she can move fast if she has too

Windwhistler has been replaced by Stormin.  Windwhistler has not been seen in his King St Territory since January. Courtship activity including flights has not been seen. Erin tends to sit away from Stormin , appearing that she is not interested in him.  Also, Erin has been lying down behind the pillar since September. Could be a number of possibilities given the harsh cold temperatures this past winter and her age.   It is certainly not incubation as there are no eggs as yet.  Her age is a good indicator and the fact that only one egg hatched last year at this site. We’ll keep watching for courtship activity but at this time it’s not happening. I think Stormin is more concentrated on patrolling the area, and sometimes wandering over to the Sheraton nest site, which is very close.

We have just received some interesting although sad news from Mark Heaton from the MNRF - (Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry,,, OMNR’s new name) with regards to one of the William Osler juveniles that was produced last season in 2014.

It has been reported to him from wildlife officials in Colombia South America that a juvenile peregrine falcon banded with a solid Black band Y over 6, dawning a silver USWF band number of 1156-06858 had been found dead 1.1 miles from Barrio Boyacá, District Capital of Colombia, Bogota - (in South America).

Unfortunately, we have never received the names from the Hospital’s name the chick contest for last year, so we can’t put a name to the young juvenile peregrine.

The question has often been asked, where do all f the young fledgling peregrine falcons go and what happens to them? Well, this answers one of those questions,, (combined this band return with 7 years of data as a result of the CPF satellite tracking program where we satellite tracked first year peregrines from Quebec and Ontario), and with the combined accumulated band return reports such as this one, we have a partial answer as to where some of our Canadian peregrines are going to winter over during the winter months.

We found a large percentage of the Ontario and Quebec Canadian produced peregrines that were tracked via satellite in our tracking program ended up wintering over in Colombia, Venezuela and Argentina in South America, in addition to many that wintered over in Central America countries - (Nicaragua and Costa Rica),,,, and never to forget little “Lightning� from the Richmond Hill CPF hack site and all of the fuss that he caused everyone while wintering over in the Dominican Republic!!!!!!

Cam is working today!!  Someone home with back to cam so can't tell who...hoping it's Pigott!

 

I expect given the spring like temps coming this week, we'll see a lot more of them

One thing I had forgotten about Veteran.  I wonder, given others are coming back from migration the past 2 days...maybe he also migrated and will come back. 

He's still a young lad, hopefully he is safe somewhere and no trouble will occur between him and Skye.  Remember when Chester came to visit while Kendal was here?  That ended well for Chester so hopefully it will for Lucky as well.
