Thanks for setting me straight Carol, I thought they sent her out of state - probably getting my falcons mixed up . At least there was somewhere to send her and what a great job everyone did! I don't think the agencies up here are really aware of the kind of following the faclons have. Whenever I meet someone new up here and tell them that people as far as Europe watch our cams, they really seem shocked and incredulous to hear that.

MAK, my reason for not saying anything was because one day I heard what you just posted and then next month he was being released and then I heard nothing...so I realized that rather than put false info out there as I wasn't in 'the know', it was better to publicly keep silent.
I can't speak for anyone else but I'd like to think that it wasn't a case of wanting to keep secrets, it was more of a 'too many cooks in the kitchen' scenario. One of the things we sorely lack in the GTA is a rehabilitation center dedicated to our beloved peregrines. Most of the wildlife agencies have to deal on a daily basis with anything from possums, squirrels, geese, raccoons, foxes, peregrines, hawks, sparrows, etc. They are all non profit so they are constantly struggling with money and resource issues so they are really on a daily basis reacting to do what is best for all the species that come through the door. None of them are equipped to provide end to end care, in other words you bring Kendal in the door in one place and he stays there throughout his recovery and rehabilitation and when it's done, then a decision is made on his future. Right now it's we can help get him to Point A, then we have to send him elsewhere to move him to Point B and then if he gets there he can move on to Point C - which is again another place. So it's really something we up here lack and wish we had.
I know down there you guys at least have the option available to you to send them out of state if required, as was done in Mariahs' case. As far as I know, that has never been an option here. Perhaps if it was, more could be done in serious cases? That's not a knock to the agencies up here but from what I've read, the U.S. has made some great strides in raptor care, - including surgeries that fix exactly the injury that I heard Kendal had.

Thanks for the update at last even though it is terrible news for us and especially Kendal. Given a choice, I would prefer euthanasia for an adult falcon that has previously won a mate and produced offspring and therefore knows the kind of productive life he should be living.

You're welcome Dot. Please keep in mind who the update is coming from, I'm in no way working for any 'official' organization that knows the details of what kind of future Kendal is facing. I'm a falcon fan like yourself. I just happened to know some people that were going to one of the places that I had heard was involved with him along his journey and asked them to ask for me how is he really doing as I had heard several different things and wasn't sure what was accurate and what wasn't.

Hiya, sorry was out getting groceries this morning and just got home. Kendal is currently at OWL Foundation, they specialize in owl rehabilitation but do take other raptors as well. I never knew if it was spelt O.W.L. - in other words an acronym for something else or was it OWL. Checked their website and it is officially OWL Foundation. Here is a link to them: http://www.theowlfoundation.ca/I think many people have been perplexed about the lack of updates on Kendal, myself included. His situation was complicated by the fact that he was being cared for by 3 different organizations and of course as he was injured - it's the MNR (our version of DNR) that in a sense has 'ownership' of him. Sadly they don't do updates because they are also responsible for many other species care as well. I also think there was a lot of hope behind the scenes that Kendal would be releasable. It's not always easy to tell how a bird will heal especially with his type of injury. That being said - many of us heard tidbits here and there but were unsure how to proceed with the info and I finally just decided what the heck - I had friends go visit there last week and ask and I figured since the information was freely given to them, it must be okay to say so publicly. I'm sorry I didn't come here and share it, it was a spur of the moment thing on my part as I really felt badly for all the fans of his who so desperately have wanted to hear something, anything about him. anyway with everything else that's happened the past week in the falcon world with Chesapeake, Skye, then BB - I forgot to relay the news here as my mind was going a mile a minute. My sincere apologies, I know how much he means to all of you.

He certainly could have migrated. I thought of that too since as you reminded us so did DC. We'll just have to wait and see. I expect we'll see more change here this year - we have a few falcons that are up there so I won't be surprised to see at least 2 more new pairs this year. There are other opportunities out there for them and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that Skye has taken advantage of one of them. He is after all the son of a rascal

Carly, it's always sad to lose one. Hopefully Skye is ok and we'll see him again. I hope so too. I am grateful he had 4 offspring with Quest. For years I kept hoping one of Jack and Angel's kids would meet up with one of Mariah and Kaver's..lol. I was tickled when it finally happened, two strong genetic lines and what beautiful kids they made Life as a pefa isn't easy as we know but at least if something has happened, he's left some beautiful babies behind, one or more of whom may hopefully carry the legacy forward.

Though I was heartbroken when Tracy informed me last night that Skye is MIA, it's one of those bittersweet moments.
Lucky - is the son of Chester at ICI (now known as Amexon). Chester if you may remember is the son of Haven and the former male Irving whom Stormin replaced. Chester also once courted Quest before he settled in his new home.
Anyway for me another generation carrying Irving's bloodline is great news. I remember seeing him flying with the 'bend' in his wing - he had been in rehab in the US for awhile and when he was released he made his way to Canada. He found a mate, established a brand new falcon site for us and then sadly was killed in the second year.
So it's hard to be sad when you see his legacy now living on, he was an amazing tiercel and I'm so happy his legacy is continuing on.

C&C have added more this morning:
As anticipated, Chesapeake has reached the end. Her body was recovered in Akron after a witness saw her engaged in an aerial fight and then being overtaken on the ground by a red-tailed hawk. Thanks to DOW's Laurie for letting us know about Chesapeake's death personally and posting it to this page. RIP to a phenomenal peregrine!

Can a RTH actually lift a 7 lb dog???
I've picked up deceased RTH's on the rooftops here and no way they could pick up a 7lb animal. They range in weight from 1.5 to 3.5 lbs. So even if this was one at the 3.5 lb range, how could it pick up a 7lb dog? It may have been on the ground eating something and the dog attacked it and it used it's talons to defend itself..but I'll eat my hat if it got airborne with a dog.
