Their lives are so fragile and the odds are stacked against them so let's rejoice when we can for every moment that we are blessed with their presence in our lives as their time with us often times is far too short.

Apparently some of our kids like home and are staying...Frank was just on the nestbox hanging out - didn't see his tape as it was hidden but the head markings look like him!
!! Still at Home! September 17, 2013 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre Kathy Reports:
It’s been relatively quiet around here the past few weeks. Falcon fans in the neighborhood have been telling me they still here 2 of the juvies around 5 am in the morning and I have seen one of them chasing mom around for food as late as last Tuesday.
Over the weekend, Alison over at CMNH caught photos of Frank paying a visit to the nest ledge and right now as I’m typing this I see a juvie on the nest box. Back is to me but it might be Frank again.
O’Connor has been quite tolerant of having them hanging around and I’ve seen no effort to chase them off and send them on their way yet.

Don't worry, all the juvies do this and learn their lesson. Our Marla did the same thing a few years ago when C&C spotted her down there, she even got in a tussle with Rocky but survived it and went on to find her own nest a year later.
She's young and curious that's all and looks like she defended herself admirably! I've personally never heard of adults hurting or killing a juvie.

I have great news to share with you all!!!
!!! Luna Spotted in Ohio!! September 11, 2013 - Toronto - Don Mills Kathy Reports:
This morning I checked my email only to find an email from our great friend in Ohio - Chad & Chris, affectionately known as C&C! They attached a photo of a female juvenile they wanted me to ID - I was so so happy to look up her bands and see that she is Luna, banded Y/69 with Yellow Tape! More details to come as I get them…!

Just posted over at TR Residential:
Sep 5, 2013 - Released!
I was at the ready with my camera, and the bird was too fast to capture much of! The MNR came and took the bird to the roof, opened the bag, and our juvie departed instantly.
We watched him fly off until we couldn't see him any longer. He flew south, and there were no other falcons on site to harass him.
And so it was, a successful release!

Thursday Sept 5 in the late afternoon, we expect that the MNR will be bringing our male back home to be released. He is as yet unnamed but has been banded as 'W over 71'.

Carly, what's your take on this? Doesn't look too bad, she still has room between her band...a good thing! It makes me think of Lucy the eagle, who lost her whole foot and she is doing pretty good considering. Thanks From a strictly 'amateur' (which is what i am concerning injuries) point of view - it looks better than it did a few weeks ago. But it's still awfully swollen and the end doesn't look 'sealed' off so would she still be vulnerable to infection? The fact that SW can stand now and put weight on her foot is a good sign though. Someone like Tracy would be much better able to assess her long term prognosis as she is a qualified to treat and assess injured raptors. Perhaps because SW is using her foot every day, it will take much longer to heal than if she were in rehab and not having to defend, hunt, etc.
