31  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Offspring / Re: Linn (2007) - Scarborough/Yellow Pages on: 04-Apr-22, 11:03:43 AM
Detroit Zoo won't be running their web cam this year due to maintenance at the site however they have confirmed that Linn's daughter Velcro is still there this year and she and her mate have 3 eggs so far!!

From FB:

Over the last several years, we have been delighted to see thousands celebrate the peregrine falcons who nest on the iconic Detroit Zoo water tower. We have encouraged this by providing a live video feed, allowing the community to watch these birds become parents and raise their chicks.

This year, due to ongoing maintenance of our water tower and parking lots, we have decided to discontinue the live feed, and we will not be broadcasting footage of the nest on the Detroit Zoo website. While we know some lovers of these majestic birds will be disappointed by this decision, we remain committed to sharing with you the falcons? journey on our social media pages.

We are pleased to announce the peregrine falcon female from last year, Velcro, has returned to the water tower, along with an unbanded, unidentified male. The pairing has resulted in three eggs in their nest so far.

Stay tuned for more periodic updates about this dynamic duo!

Well the good news is that Indy and Aria both chased her off together so they are working as a team and yesterday she laid her second egg.  Photos attached - taken by Martin Dekkers.

From CPF Facebook:

March 26th First egg laid for Indie and Aria

This afternoon Aria laid an egg between 4 and 5 p.m.    I was at the window and saw the egg, then the wings flying around one level above with one bird circling - it would seem that our old mom is back from the West Mall - Aria broke loose, all three flew off - and then Aria returned to lay on her new little one - I again witnessed Indie bringing her food.   We were hopeful that we would have a big successful year this year but it seems that old mom is determined.

"Update: Whittier Apartments, Detroit : Local volunteer, Thyme Warner was able to identify both Peregrine Falcons today. She saw them mating and had the patience to get photos of the bands. The male is still Fryer (black/blue, 43/C) who hatched in Flint in 2016. The new female is Sandy (black, Y/97) hatched in Ontario at the Toronto Sheraton in 2015. Good job, Thyme!"

Sandy (black, Y/97) hatched in Ontario at the Toronto Sheraton in 2015.

Saw him come in a few minutes on Cam 6 and to the side of nest box, she jumped down and then both out of view.  Strange didn't even see them on Cam 5..sounded like breakfast drop maybe?

Finally at 7.19 am he's in view and in the nest box now.

7.21 and he's off.

6.41 am - MT came in for a quick visit .  surprise

She laid her first egg last year on 3/29. This would be early.

The fact that she's even thinking about it here is what threw me off.  I log in and there she is, eyes closed in her little trance...!

I guess this answers the 'are they or aren't they' question given she's sitting in the nest box in the dark and in the rain.  rain2  I really thought she would go back to TS but I guess not.
