They are doing just fine in terms of food. Don't forget how hot it's been outside, food will go bad really fast in this weather and fresher/moister is better in terms of hydrating the falcons.
Once the kids can thermoregulate, it's not unusual to see both parents hunting for fresh food. This also serves as an early lesson to baby so he can see how food is prepared. Few more weeks he'll have to learn to figure it out on his own.

Sad news from Jack's other site this morning, one of two has been found dead. One was rescued last week and banded before being returned to the ledge - both were thought to be female Jul 3, 2012 - Unfortunate news ... Sometime this morning, one of our juvies (the unbanded one) apparently had a fatal accident, likely an impact with the building. The bird was located on the ground near my patio, and has been preserved on ice for the night until the MNR can retrieve for research purposes. Sad to see, but as we know these birds face many challenges in their lives, and survival in an urban environment can be just as difficult as in the most pristine of natural environments.

Banding was today in Edmonton for the U of Alberta nest. Three of the four babies have been held back by Gord as they were in rough shape, two especially were infested with bugs and Gord said their health so bad the would likely not have survived another week. Bev has just updated and said that Gord has confirmed that the two smaller ones both have Frounce and will be treated, he feels they have a chance. She will post more details to BCAW later. Only one of the four babies was well enough to be returned back to the parents. Elaine also said that Gord will remove the nestbox and replace it as this one is no longer fit for occupancy. I haven't been watching much but others that have reported the kids didn't look quite right and Bev's instincts as always proved correct - she knew something was wrong last week. http://www.peregrinefalcon-bcaw.net/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=1288&start=320

Another Sad Day At the Lift Bridge June 28, 2012 - Burlington - Lift Bridge Sue McCreadie Reports: Just shortly after we returned from the Lift Bridge this morning, we received an e-mail from our friend Nils Foss about a downed falcon on the Toronto Bound Skyway. At just about the same time as I was reading the e-mail, Marion Nash from CPF called after having received the same report. Bill and I headed out immediately to do a drive by. Of course we found it in the left shoulder where there is no room to stop. We drove the Skyway again to see if we could get a band number. No luck. We headed to the Lift Bridge and with the help of Clare, we were able to get in touch with the Ministry of Transportation who were kind enough to dispatch a vehicle to pick up our bird. When we met up with them on Eastport Drive, we were so sad to see that it was little Port Hope. We want to thank Clare from the Lift Bridge, the Ministry of Transportation and the fellows from TWD Road Maintenance who retrieved little Port Hope. Fly free precious little one.

!!! William Osler banding success! Two very healthy hatchlings!! One male and one female!
June 27, 2012 - Etobicoke - William Osler CPF Postmaster Reports:
June 27th - 2012 A great day at the William Osler Health care centre in Etobicoke Ontario this morning as two very healthy young hatchlings were successfully weighed, sexed and banded. William Osler’s newest family members were identified as one male and one female.
We are waiting on the Hospitals name the hatchling contest to assign them their new names and will report this information as soon as we have the winners of the contest and their names.
A huge thank you to the William Osler staff who hosted the banding and to Mark Heaton and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources for banding William Osler’s newest family members.
Again a big thank you to the Rochester gals who were able to attend and all of the CPf staff and volunteers that were on hand to assist.
Stay tuned for photos and further details of the banding……

Sad News to Report at Canada Square June 24, 2012 - Toronto - Canada Square Building - Yonge and Eglinton Marion Nash Reports:
A call came into the office voice mail from a gentlemen who works in the Yonge and Eglinton area to inform us that one of our falcons was hit by a bus on Yonge St and did not survive. We have confirmed that it was little Brisk. It was very upsetting as we had hoped that since he seemed to be flying well after his first rescue that he would be a survivor but it was not to be.
Lyn and I have so far put in about 120 hours each at the Canada Square nest site and have conducted 2 rescues. Simcoe is flying very well and Solar has very much improved her flight skills. We hope the next couple days will see her flying with Mom, Dad and Simcoe high and strong.
