We have some great news to report this morning, as I can confirm that Quest and Kandel are parents! At some time during the evening and prior to 8:15 AM this morning, the single egg that Quest and Kendal have been so dedicated too has hatched!

 

Still Waiting For a Hatch at Duncan Mill Road
May 28, 2011 - Toronto - Don Mills

Bruce Massey attended the 220 Duncan Mill Road nest site today to check in on Quest and Kendal, our resident pair, and the single egg that they are caring for.  Incubation was still underway and Bruce witnessed the stashing of much food by the pair in preparation should this egg hatch.  If we do have a hatch at the site, this will be the fattest chick on record given all of the food that is ready and waiting!!  We will be checking in on them each day and reporting on the progress of the nest site as a hatch is due any day now.

They will either return to normal within a few days or recycle margaret.  Conventional thinking in the past said they if they lost their eggs early in the cycle then they would reclutch...any later and the opportunity would be lost until next year. 

HOWEVER now with web cams we have seen quite a few pairs reclutch at various points in the process..including the Dayton pair who are now putting to rest the claim that if the eggs hatch and something happens..no way they'd reclutch..well we now have a new egg in the box so that theory has now been shot down too. 

I think honestly anything is possible here and we'll just have to wait and see what A & B do.

So very sorry to wake to this sad news. 

I have some news to cheer you this sad morning...Linn has 3 babies!!!!   She's a messy housekeeper apparently but they've now confirmed 3 eyases at the site!!!

Quest and Kendal Still Incubating One Egg at Duncan Mill Road

Bruce Massey was on-site for a visit to the nest at 220 Duncan Mill Road and was able to see, when the female stood up, that the resident pair are still incubating their single egg.  This egg is due to hatch any day now and so Bruce will be regularily visiting over the following days to look for a hatch.

From my site, my special boy - I had so many adventures with him and at times thought he would never make it but look at him now    I will have to take a trip out there and visit him - I wonder if he'll remember me standing in the backyard flapping my wings arms to try to show him how to get out of the tree he was trapped in. 

He is an offspring of Jack (yes that Jack  ) and Angel. 

There is also Erin - the resident female at King Street here in Toronto (Kendall's mom).  She turned up in 2009 and was 11 years old at the time!  She was born in Milwaukee in 1998 and who knows where she was prior to showing up here.

And don't forget your very own Alkyonis, who was spotted for the first time since she left Rochester in 2004, in Michigan.   

I'm so glad you guys got to see all of Mariah's girls...I bet they are wondering how the heck you manage to find them all the time
