Fledge Watch Underway - Toronto - Uptown Yonge and Eglinton Frank Butson Reports:
After a hectic first day of putting together a watch team and many calls, day 2 saw everyone come together. Bruce arrived for a very early start to the watch and witnessed one feeding. I arrived at about 9am,and located Bruce easily. Soon Lyn and Zoe joined us. Jan and Linda later came by to see the nest. There was a steady rain for most of the day. We saw both juveniles and both parents. We know the adult female is unbanded and the adult male is Black over Green..so far alphanumeric ID hasnt been made. This indicates he is from the US north-east. We are hopeful that with a scope we will read the numbers. We saw another feeding before the rain got much heavier and we left for the day, youngsters well fed and thoroughly soaked. As one watcher lives very near the location,we asked she call us if it stopped raining long enough to warrent going back. Stay tuned for more!
(Ha..I knew it, they never bring a scope!)

National Zoo is currently in negotiations with China to extend Mei and Tian's stay for another 5 years - that was always the plan. I know SDZ negotiated Bai and Gao's stay for another 5 years as did recently ZA - they both got the pandas for half the cost this time so I expect NZ will get to keep Mei and Tian for a few more years yet! Read that in the Washington Post awhile back in an interview with the new Director for NZ who happens to be the old ZA Director so he has experience renegotiating Panda Loan agreements. ps: Yes I am also a pandaholic :

Very Sad News today for our friends in Cleveland, Terminal Towers - Ranger has collided with a building Let's pray he pulls through Ranger Suffers Head Trauma in Collision with BuildingLaura Jordan of the Medina Raptor Center relayed a message to the Museum that a falcon had been recovered on the sidewalk at the base of the Fifth Third Building at 600 Superior Avenue on Thursday at 9:50 AM and was being held in a box by building security. I retrieved the bird at 10:45 am. It was Ranger. He had apparently collided with the building and had collapsed on the sidewalk. No one witnessed the collision so we are unaware of why he hit the building. This is close to the territorial boundary between the Terminal Tower falcons and the Bohn Buildng falcons. So perhaps it was a territorial dispute. Ranger was very groggy and had blood in his mouth and throat. Though able to stand and responsive to stimuli around him, he definitely was not ready to be released. I brought him back to the Museum and contacted Laura. We agreed that he needed veterinary assessment. He was transported to the Medina Raptor Center and then to Dr. Riggs. At last report (around 5:00 pm Thursday afternoon) Laura expressed deep concern over the head injury and gave a guarded prognosis. His condition had not improved over the course of the afternoon. If anything he was worse. I will update as we learn more about his condition. We will all be keeping a close eye on SW and the three fledglings. There are numerous examples of a single Peregrine parent successfully caring for its late stage nestlings on its own. SW is clearly very experienced and should be up to the task.

Etobicoke & TR Site Kids Update
!!! It’s Raining Men!! June 08, 2010 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre Kathy Reports:
It seems that Jack took my words about there being a shortage of males to heart as he is the proud father of 5 boys this year! 3 at our site here and 2 at his other site.
Interestingly he wasn’t much help during either banding, staying briefly and making alot of noise and then taking off to the alternate site leaving his ‘girls’ to do all the hard work defending!
This morning he was here quite a bit…so I figured they must be banding over there and at one point he was eating lunch on the ledge while mom patrolled the skies and cleared the pigeons for him!
I saw all of the boys today, they are getting more emboldened and coming a bit closer to the edge of the ledge now. Two of them have gotten quite dark compared to last Friday and our littlest one is black and white now. We will be starting our annual Fledge Watch here next Monday as the boys will be around 36 days old which is the earliest they can fledge.

Good news on the Quest viewing but bad news about the nest box, that means that all 4 eggs are now gone again? The female there is Treasure, a Cleveland peregrine that some of the CMNH folks know, she is only 3 years old. I hope she is okay too.
