I'm very sorry to hear that too, but so glad that warrior is doing well.  This will give them some experience and strengthen their bond together

Reunited at last!

It was the most satisfying moment of my 44 years of bear study. When Sue and I got the cub into the little carrier kennel and I saw Sue crying, I could hardly keep from breaking down myself. And then seeing Lily and Hope’s reunion was the most beautiful expression of animal emotion I have ever seen. Hope was bawling very loudly, and Lily was doing her pleasant grunts as Hope latched onto a nipple and Lily half dragged her nearer to the white pine where they had nursed together so many times in April.

Sue is readying video she took of the reunion. It’s late, and we were up half the night last night, so we’ll fill in details tomorrow.

Thank you all so much for pulling together with us as we all went through this emotional roller coaster. The roller coaster effect continued right up to the unexpectedly wonderful end. More on that tomorrow.

Thank you for the tremendous outpouring of support today. We can’t wait to meet many of you all at the Lilypad Picnic in a couple months.

I was hoping Mom would prefer Milton who is more faithful than Jack who is maintaining two females!

Me too Jeanne!  From what I've read and seen at other nest sites, the female/male will usually take back a mate that has returned from rehab.  I'm encouraged by the fact she was seen hanging out with him and they actually have been together for a few years so they have a shared history.  Perhaps the fact she had babies due to hatch any minute, she chose to maintain the status quo until the chicks are raised .  Of course that may be seen as attaching human feelings to them but we'll see what happens in a few months.

No sign of Milton since Mathew saw him and mom flying around together behind Jack's back     He had to go away for two days right after that day and when he came back no sign of the little guy.  No reports of conflict either by the residents so perhaps he's hanging out somewhere nearby in safety or he's decided to enjoy his summer and will be back when the kids are grown.  We'll have to wait and see what happens.

Mathew has a new post and photos of mom and the new kids on the block...congratulations TR Mom and Jack (again!).  Looks like he's the father of six now!!

We are all wondering about Polly as well, Eve says she hasn't seen her in over a week.  Hopefully she's okay and just out exploring her world.  Apparently she has been MIA for a week before so keeping positive thoughts.  Perhaps mum suggested she take a vacation until the kids are a bit older 

I'm going out on a limb here but given he saw the female eating the egg...it begs the question if there isn't an environmental issue going on here.  We've had so many different male/female combinations here and almost always the same result - eggs that aren't viable/destroyed/vanished.  I am beginning to wonder if the mill isn't spewing some nasty chemicals that is affecting the viability of the eggs themselves?  

If it was the same pair or say the same male or female throughout the years - you could question the fertility of one of the pair or both but every year we see either a new male or new female or both.  We've had some hatches but year after year we keep reading about destroyed/missing eggs so for sure something un-natural is going on.

The only other alternative is that someone at the Mill itself is harassing the falcons and stressing them out so much that they are destroying their own eggs.  Either way it's time the MNR stepped in and did some real investigating - given that this is still a protected species.

And just when you thought you'd seen it all...TR Mom has been seen flying with her former mate while Jack babysits their chicks!  Only in Toronto I tell ya!!

3 Eyases at Etobicoke Bloor Islington confirmed by Frank just now!!  HE was dive bombed by both Jack and Angel, more details later!!

The fighting started at Toronto Residential at 6 pm last night and continued this morning.  Jack has a slight chest wound but is still flying and in control of his territory last I heard a half hour ago although no falcons are now being sighted over there anywhere.  I checked here several times and he has not come back here to check on Angel or the nest as of yet. 

I have done a small update on the CPF site just now.  I expect this will be like it was with Mariah and be prolonged over a few days until one of them wins or gives in?  Mathew also has some updates on TR site this morning.
