Is this Buckeye the father of our Spirit in Montreal? Nicole
Nicole I believe your Spirit's father was the other Buckeye - also a very famous and much loved falcon from the Hilliard Road Bridge in Cleveland and he passed on in 2007. This Buckeye also had a female eyases named Spirit last year - 2008 with a band ID of S/20 from what I could find. Now I'm not sure if somehow the two Buckeye's are not related as both nest sites seem to have some shared history in the past. I have only known this Buckeye for 3 years so I am not well versed on his past history prior to that other than what I have read on various message boards. It is interesting that you have Spirit, daughter of Hilliard Buckeye in Montreal as I am in Toronto and one of my girls born here in 2006 named Lara is now in Ohio on a bridge with a falcon named Rocky who was one of the last eyases born to Hilliard's Buckeye. It seems the falcon world is a small world after all and it's wonderful to see the offspring of those we lost live on in their descendants

What a great photo Paul, thank you for sharing that with us. It's actions like that bind us closer to our falcons, when we realize what they endure and what they will do to protect their unborn young. They just never cease to amaze me and humble me. Buckeye was one of the great ones and he will be sorely missed by everyone.

Rochester Falcons / Satellite Tracking / Not Much Change For Quest

I took a chance and emailed the Lennox Power Plant to ask if they could keep an eye out for Quest and also sent them the link to the Imprints page. I got a reply today!!
"Thank you for the email containing the link to the website. Very interesting. I have notified folks around the station about this and they will keep any eye out for Quest. We have a falcon nesting box on the top east end of the Powerhouse. It has never had an occupant. We will watch to see if Quest visits it."
I hope you guys don't mind I did that? I would go out there myself but I don't drive and it's about 2 hours from here so I thought why not just ask as they no doubt would notice a peregrine falcon hanging out there if she does go to the nest box.

That whole edge of Lake Ontario seems to be peregrine central. This is a great area for a peregrine falcon to make their home. Small pockets of high buildings but not a jungle - there are lots of parks and woodlands as it's mostly residential areas and close to Lake Ontario. The challenge that I see we have in Toronto is lack of tiercels hence you read about all these supposed 'bigamous' males. The females seem to do well but the little guys - not so much. I know of 6 male juvies that were lost during fledge last year and those would have been the ones that would be coming back next Spring to potentially look for a nest site. This year we did better and there were a good number of males born at the sites that did have young but we had a cold spring and more failed nest sites this year and some sites with a female but no tiercel to mate with!

Oh no, I hope Quest is okay! I was just coming here to post on her as I asked Frank about the area she is in and he replied back to me with this:
I did hear something about a satellite tagged bird out in the Wesleyville area at the old OPG hydro plant. Yes, we did a hack site out there many years ago. Didn’t know if our hack box was still on the roof? It’s a good area for sure, but the building is very similar (if not exactly the same size and shape of the old Lakeview facility). Mostly flat top roofs, very few ledges so to speak. If the box is still there, this would be a perfect area,, lots of shore birds, lots of pigeons and other great food stuffs.
I also asked about Linn:
No news of Linn. No eggs or activity at the Bell site for months."

She might be scoping out a nest site perhaps ? There are 3 nest sites here she could possibly be interested in and one is the one I work under which houses Angel and Jack. There is also the private residential site which is a secret location somewhere in Etobioke with an American Female and 'Jack'. And there is the William Osler site where they did the fostering this year. There is also the Mississauga site which is in an adjoining suburb.
I will keep my eyes out for her as I'm out daily checking on our pair here.

Not sure if Frank ever posted this but he runs a migration watch starting in August up here in the GTA. Rosetts Park is in Scarborough - the same suburb that Linn was seen in. He has a nice blog set up if anyone is interested and so far they've had a record 10 peregrine falcons come through the area. They spot all kinds of birds and track them including bald eagles, ospreys, etc... Some nice photos on the site as well. Enjoy! Here is a link to the site: http://raptorwatch.blogspot.com/
