HI kitty,

PC had a hatch last year as well and Buffalo Bill is still there or was as of last year anyway.  A banded female drove off Trillium and killed another competitor there last year - she's banded black over green is all they said in last year's post and that they hadn't named her yet.  Does that mean she had no name where ever she was banded?  Don't know but wish they would posted the band information.

I don't know if Linn is still at Yellow Pages - perhaps during banding they can confirm her ID..talons crossed she is still there.

No sign of her at all Kris.  I miss her dearly.  I hope she's somewhere enjoying her summer in peace.   wub2

Looks like we lost one of the two eggs today.  I saw D'arcy eating one earlier but the lighting made it so hard to tell if I was seeing what I thought I saw.  I only saw one egg after she took a break later.  Given her mother never has more than 1 or 2 successful hatches I am actually not surprised as fertility issues are often passed on.

 Sad Sad crying crying

A message from the Department of Environmental Conservation:

On May 24, DEC staff were working carefully to band two peregrine chicks at the University at Buffalo nest box, which has been a productive site since the spring of 2009. Banding young birds in nests each year enables biologists to track productivity and populations of peregrine falcons. Upon opening the box to access the nestlings, one chick bumped the other off the edge to the ground below. This rare and unfortunate incident occurred quickly and was unavoidable. To ensure the safety of future nestlings, DEC will assess future banding efforts at this site. We regret the loss of this young peregrine.
