Yeah I"m not sure but now Chad is showing me more video and one of the two battling still after this body was found is also banded.  Seems they are all 3 speckly.  Gees...I hope no more deaths.  The fighting seems to have ended only because it got too dark so this may continue tomorrow.

There were still 2 'other'  females battling an hour ago and one of them is also unbanded as well so it could be VV.  Chad was giving me a play by play on FB and the one the box now is speckly like VV..can't see her legs though.  I'm home now and can see their cam.

Edit to add:  I just blew up the photo of the dead female and i may see an orange band which is consistent with what Ingrid said one of the intruders had on her leg so we'll see.

OMG!!! Thank goodness all's well that ended well, or at least we assume so.

Yes all is well.  Aria is safe and well and the pigeon, I assume, escaped unharmed in that moment at least.

The new cam is amazing, it's like you're right there next to them.

Was just outside when I saw 2 birds hurtling towards the ground heading right into traffic....it was Aria and she had a pigeon but it got loose on her so she was in pursuit of it and pulled up at the last minute. I didn't realize it was a pigeon as it happened so fast so I ran across the street in case it was another falcon...and there in the pub doorway is this poor brown pigeon..wings up again the wall, pressed as tightly as he could to the wall with this stunned looked on his face. She landed on a light pole but took off after she saw me going near her intended prey. Honestly! These birds are going to kill me!

Well it doesn't happen often but we've seen other pefa's appear on cam that are missing a band so somehow they lost it.

It may have gotten damaged during her battle with the previous female here last year when they came down in the gutter - maybe the force of that cracked it or it got caught on the flashing and it loosened the screw(s).

Edit to add:  In fact I remember she favored her foot for awhile after she won the site.

Post on BCAW says Cadence has lost her silver band.

I saw Betty Ann had reported it earlier today.  Well we knew it was coming given the screw had come out several months ago.  Hopefully the blk/green one is okay and doesn't come loose!

11.25 Just had two on ledge.  Male was at far end for like 2 seconds he peeked in and then took off!

Edit to add:  Blew up the photo and cropped - he's too far down to get a clear view but for what it's worth here he is.

Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute

A team of our reproductive scientists, veterinarians and panda keepers performed an artificial insemination on giant panda Mei Xiang today, March. 1. Scientists and keepers had been closely monitoring Mei Xiang’s behavior and hormones since she began displaying behavioral changes Feb. 17, indicating she was almost ready to breed. Daily hormone reports showed Mei Xiang’s estrogen levels peaked Feb. 28, which means she was ovulating and able to become pregnant. Female giant pandas are only in estrus or able to become pregnant, for 24 to 72 hours each year. Paws-crossed!
