Bats have been forced to attempt to survive so many human activities that it breaks my heart to see them dying in such large numbers from white-nose syndrome. bat

Ok, they are morons!   thumbsdown

I did notice that one of the "sponsors" on the top sign is NOAA (I drive by their MD location every day).

Yes, we have received a grant from the MV Anitra´s oilspill in Delaware Bay to put signs and do some educational material. NOAA, Manomet and your Department of Interior are among the sponsors
Now we are planning to replace some signs  that were destroyed by other "morons"... tickedoff

Yes, ignorant people are just that IGNORANT!! Thanks for trying Mirta.. Sad  Thanks for the info too Smiley

Sadly, those people are all over the place!  The man probably didn't know about the birds, thought you were crazy, and went on his way.  If (big if) you had been able to get his attention, the boy would probably have been in awe.  Keep trying, as the victory will be sweet.   thumbsup  Are you able to post signs?  Janet

If they were only ignorant, will be good...
They have seen at least 3 signs on their way, like the signs you see in my attachents...

Don't they like  hatch1 and quickly leave? Nice pics Mirta...are they rare in your country or is it just pure luck if you happen to see one on eggs? I love the beaks. Thanks

Oystercatchers aren´t rare here, we have nests almost every 50 meters along quieter beaches. But they are theatened by people walking, on ATV (even they are prohibited in these beaches) and dogs.
Last Saturday I went again to see the nest, found another one with 3 eggs, but being a 3 days weekend, a lot of people were walking or driving  disturbing  the birds.
You can see a man with his son driving very close of one oystercatcher in the picture I´m copying. I tried to stop him to explain why he shouldn´t be there, but he decided to ignore me.  Angry
I hate that kind of people  thumbsdown

Our Perito Moreno Glacier is one of the most amazing Nature places I´ve ever been. It is  Sad to think that the Earth can survive without the beauty of glaciers...
Mirta, preparing a trip to Rio Gallegos, a city close to Perito Moreno´s National Park, but I won´t have the time to visit it again...

Two days ago, during my work at the beach, I could find and take picures of this american oystercatcher at its nest. I was with a friend who took me a picture while I was trying to bring near without disturbing it.  secret2
I was waiting there for 30 minutes, when it decided to fly, so we could see its 2 eggs.
Hope they will have luck!!   hatch1

73  Anything Else / Totally OT / Sad day in my country, and I believe, in a lot of places on: 04-Oct-09, 10:02:01 AM
Today the most wonderful singer of Argentina has dead.  Sad
Mercedes Sosa had an amazing voice. She started as a folcklore singer, but then she began to sing different kinds of songs, mostly from latinoamerican authors, and even soft rock themes.
All my country love her. I believe most of the people in the world who love music, know and love her too. She was  a voice of freedom during dark days of violence and dictatorship in my country
You tube is full of her videos, this is only one, perhaps her most loved song: Gracias a la Vida
