Quest finally turned around...there's Harlie! OK...I have a question for those who have seen Quest up close & personal. It appears that she has 2 white feathers on her head. Are they really white feathers or yucked or...? The 2 that appear to be light on her shoulders are probably flipped or ruffled from the harness. ( which makes me think of ) I do believe those are white feathers! I agree. Quest has white head feathers! :-)

Thank you to Harlequin and everyone responsible for this wonderful cam on Quest and the little Harlequin! Who would have ever thought that we would be watching an adult Quest on camera again -- three years after we watched her as little one -- and with her own little one. This is such a gift!

Doesn't this look like the picture of the unidentified bird MAK took while at KO a week or two ago? A friend of mine - looking at the picture- thought it might be a Northern Goshawk. I don't think they are very common around here, but looking at this website that Donna posted reminds me of MAK's picture.

Not much further to China! We are not scientists...at least, I'm not! But you have to feel for Beauty. We know that it's her instincts and her hormones that are kicking in, and in over drive right about now, but to be able to see these pictures of her up close is tough. We've all watched these birds long enough to know that she is having a tough time right now. I long for the pictures of a placid mom sitting on her eggs, or mantling her babies, or feeding her new hatches. The good news is that Beauty is still here, and that Archer is still visiting her and even bringing prey! I'm not giving up.

(movie) She was chewing the wood too! What's she up to? Having just looked on at this clip, I feel bad for our Beauty. Watching, her, and after having watched her in happier days, she seems disturbed? It's almost like she doesn't know what to do with herself. Where are my eggs? My Hatchlings? My Archer? I know...maybe I am anthromo....whatever....but it is not the Beauty we have watched. I KNOW it's only her instinct and hormones, but it is hard for we HUMANS to watch. We are seeing things we haven't seen before.

I'm confused...wasn't that the egg that MAK found on the street. Or maybe I missed something...
Forgot about that - I'm going to blame it on the heat! I believe you are right... Does anyone else see a landing falcon with wings raised in the stain on the south side of the nestbox? (Upper right corner.) Or is it my eyesight playing tricks on me? At first, when I read your post, I thought, "Whaaa?" But then Looked at he wall of the nest box. Yes, I do see what you are seeing. Maybe it's just wishful thinking. It looks like an in-coming falcon with wings up! Maybe we have been watching too long? LOL!

She is in the NB now. It looks like she is digging another scrape. She was even laying on her chest using her feet to push the stone out of the way. Maybe we will get a second chance at some babies this year. Anyone know how soon after copulation she is able to lay an egg?
Earlier someone - was it Donna or Ei? posted an answer to my similar question: that time is about three weeks after a failed clutch. My question was "when does the failure date start"? Is it when it is past the hatch date, or is it the date the egg decomposes and the couple abandon the nest? So many new things for all of us who are watching with our breaths held this year. I think it is new for all of us...even the experienced watchers in the field. And look at the firsts! Quest wandering for three years and the first transmitter fitted Pefa to nest as she is. We are privileged to be able to look into their world. And that is all we do. By computer screen or on scene, we are observers to the wild world of mother nature and these wonderous falcons! Lucky us!

But when does that three week period begin? Those eggs were do late...is it three weeks from the disposal of the last egg, or is it three weeks from the original hatch date of 33-34 days?

Good sign that Beauty has been in and around the nest box so much this morning (I don't know if that is a statement or a question Could she possibly be getting ready to lay an egg? Just asking... Wouldn't that be grand! She seems mighty restless just in the 20 minutes I've been watching her.
