(movie) an hour with Beauty

That's a tough hour to watch.  Poor Beauty.  Today was a May day not fit for man nor beast!    Ugly doesn't begin to describe today's weather.    Cold, rainy, dank, damp, foggy.  Looking at this with Beauty, she doesn't seem to know what to do.  Better days are coming!

Be safe little one.  Stay put for just a bit more.  Still, it's good to read some happy news!   Fly safe!

Thank you Margaret -I looked at them & they are just precious   wub2

You are welcome, BH!   Thanks to Carol for posting her gorgeous pictures, as well as the Toronto Sun for their article.   Keep watching!   I just  read a post from MAK from a few days ago, that Paul Hamilton  just re-posted, and it is so true!   "They steal our hears...sometimes they save our hearts!"...Sorry I'm not doing it justice here.

It IS okay to say you are sad here, Braveheart.  We are all feeling sadness today.
We can hope for a re-clutch, but there is always next year.
To feel better, look at the pictures Carol posted of Rhea Mae's  young 'uns being banded.  Adorable. And good news that makes us feel better, but is good news for the species too.
1071  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Pictures from the Rfalconcam cameras on: 27-May-11, 11:49:08 AM

 Sad
It is so sad, especially given that they did such a good job incubating. I hope for a re-clutch.
Carol, your pictures from RM and T's  little ones' banding came at the perfect time!  Thank you.

Any sign of Unity brooding at KP?  If not could the DEC  or someone in authority go get those two eggs and substitute them for these two?  Since B & A are certainly attentive to this NB and there appears to be little evidence of Unity knowing what to do at her early age.  My guess is B & A would continue to incubate the eggs from KP - esp if they could be quickly exchanged.  Far fetched ?????
Not far fetched per se...egg fostering is a known and successful technique...but I think there are probably too many variables.  Are Unity's eggs fertile?  Are they still viable after sitting in the (probably hot) pigeon poo?  We don't know for absolute sure yet that all these eggs are non-viable.  Would Beauty continue to brood them?  Or would end-of-season hormones take over and she'd stop tending to the nest box?  What if she does re-clutch on her own?

I think, Ei, that you raise valid questions about the egg transfer, and we are all probably  fantasizing about a possible egg transfer/successful hatch here.
IMHO I don't think this would translate well, but do we wish it could?  Yes! I wish it could be so.

Is that second egg cracked too?  Check out the main camera picture at 8:04pm on May 26th.
I believe so...phooey...though I believe once the current eggs are gone (if all are not viable) there may be a chance at re-clutching

As Carol said, this (a re-clutching)  would be a first for us.  BUT  this has been a year of firsts for us I think.
Our warmer temps are running into October, so perhaps we can support a re clutch.  Crossing fingers, toes, eyes, feathers and anything else that can be crossed...did I miss something?
1075  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Pictures from the Rfalconcam cameras on: 26-May-11, 09:13:33 PM
Sad    After all those hours of sitting, it has to be heartbreaking for Beauty.   The way she is looking at the egg looks sad.

And still she sits...keeping her eggs dry from the rain...I'm not giving up until Beauty does...

so many lessons to be learned from these birds.  Don't you wish the rest of the world could look in?
1076  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Pictures from the Rfalconcam cameras on: 26-May-11, 09:10:47 PM

Phooey!  Looks like another one broken.

Well, if a reclutch is possible, I believe the current clutch needs to be gone first

Poor Beauty and Archer and Unity.  This weather has been awful   Think sunshine and warmth!

Wonderful pics of this little one under the care of Dr. Miller.  Bonnie, let us know how she is doing.

Oh how sad for them...(now we know)!  Sad  Ropes, fishing line, plastic bags are all killers to birds and other animals. 3 babies suffered from the hands of man. Good grief. Thanks Janet.

Just to add to  your list, Donna.  I'm sure everyone knows, but those plastic six pack holders that hold cans or bottles of soda?  They kill birds, especially shore birds.   Cut those plastic holders into tiny pieces before disposing them.

I always cut them up! Too much out there to threaten the worlds wildlife without adding humans' ignorance into the mix. Sad

How do we educate the rest of the world, MAK?  So many don't know, or don't care?

I saw it too just  after 4 pm.  I 'm not sure if that is anything, or that same white spot that we've been seeing before this.   I remarked on a white spot on an egg the other day, but it had been noted earlier.
