At last, Lady Pefa has a name! It's a good name too. Is the first clear verification of her band? I seem to recall that watchers -- I think it was Carol -- mentioned that it was probably Unity a few months back. Good names; Archer is the "beau" of Beauty and Unity. Another romance novel on the way?

No offspring, but still a falcon to be reckoned with. Imagine looking out your office window to find this scene: A 2003 photo by Todd Sharman from the CPF website. Paul Beautiful! Ranger is quite the beauty. Did you see what she is sitting on? She flew that duck up to the window ledge of a skyscraper? Trying to keep track...Ranger is the offspring of Mariah and C-S? Hatched 2003? And no one has record of any offspring of Ranger? So sad; she is a beauty!

Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Question about females talking to their eggs

okay, i know this sounds weird, but it is said that human infants can recognize their own mother's voice from others right after they're born (been listening for months) maybe its the same principle B talks to her eggs so they'll recognize her voice after they hatch ok, ok, it's just an idea!!
Not weird at all, I truly believe that myself. I agree. I've thought that since the first time I heard Beauty chatting to her eggs. I'm with all you there! I, too, believe! It goes for humans as well as our falcons.

We are working with Kodak. Currently we have been given temporary permission to use a closer lot which gives us a better view of the scrape area. Thank you Kodak! When we know for sure there are eggs and IF eyases hatch, we'll deal with it then. i agree- LP only strengths our dna--we are family--not only related to mariah and kaver, but to beauty and archer as well, lets not lose are sights on what is important [/
Of course Beauty and Archer and their young are very important. That's a given. The good thing is, if there are young at KP, the eggs will hatch much later than the eggs at Times Square. That will really help when Fledge Watch begins.
My understanding is that no one can get very close to this building so how will you do a fledge watch? Just asking. That IS wonderful news about a closer view! Thank you, Carol P, and thanks to Kodak. I was wondering the same thing myself given the distance of the lot and the nest site. It seems to be a clear view, and probably less worries about cars than the TS site, but it still presents its own set of problems doesn't it? The timing will help.

Has left this owl the nestbox?
I don't know, Annette...I only see 4 now and they look mad, but then they look annoyed a lot of the time, they can't help it, they're owls. And another could easily be hiding behind them. I believe there are still 5. I've seen times where you'd swear there were only 2... I was just about to post the same picture... Oh no....I have to confess....I am in love with our Rochester falcons...but I check in on all of the other posts, and these owls have gotten my attention. Too cute! How many are there? Four or five? Too young, you say? We beg to differ, thankyouverymuch!

Just a quick update. Dana and I were at KP when the 3rd Peregrine flew in. We believe that it was LP that flew into the PPH and started sounding the Pefa alarm call. We then saw a Falcon above her on the blue bldg. We assumed it was Archer. The Tiercel took off heading around the west end of the blue bldg. That's when we saw #3 flying in from the north. It looked like two Tiercels and there was a chase, push & shove battle going on.
While LP continued to vocalize the two males continued to fly around the area. The 3rd did not want to give up, but eventually there was just two falcons in sight.
I truly hope that another Tiercel comes in to KP and that Archer returns full time to Beauty and the downtown nest location.
Watchers tonite included, Dana, Kathy O, Larry O, MAK, Susan and Carol P. The sun was shining most of the time, but it was very windy and cold.
We'll keep an eye on the situation.
Could it be Mr. T ? Beauty's winter companion? Since he is unbanded we'll never know, unless this new intruder is banded? Did anyone see?

Wow. Step away for a few hours and all this news breaks. Wonderful news about Linn. I need a scorecard once more. Our Rochester falcons are all over Canada spreading the genes of M and K. This is so amazing to me that we can follow these magnificent creatures as they do what comes naturally! If we look at the blend....it's people, and technology, and nature and people, and nations and people, and organizations and nature, all coming together because of these creatures we love and support and admire. It is a privilege to observe the lives of these creatures from far and near.

I wondered about the site also. One little one died early and then sweet Warrior. I am hopeful about Seneca though. She was the last to fledge and Mariah did a lot of flying with her. I think she is tough. She may, like Quest, be searching for a nestbox.
I also have to wonder about this site, jeanne. Is any agency available to go test the site? Who WOULD be responsible for testing, or maybe the word is Willing?
