Thanks,Donna for asking, and thank you to BF and Ann for the report and pics of Kendal with TV. I left work yesterday and stopped because I saw the ugliest thing sitting in the road. It flew up when I passed, so of course I stopped and then saw three turkey vultures sitting in trees on the side of the road. I pulled out my binocs and just sat and watched them. They are big and "big ugly". So good for Kendal for sounding the alarm and chasing this big, ugly TV from the nest. Actually, if someone can answer...how much of a threat are TVs to the nest? I thought they were only attracted to carrion, and by the scent or gasses given off by decaying matter. Do TVs prey on nests too? I know our parents downtown have been subject to TVs and given chase as well. Can anyone inform?

They are all so Beauty-ful! I remember watching them. I see another calendar coming. Number 1 and 24 for sure....side by side. I can't decide between 4 and 11. May I choose four?

i'm offering santa monica ca for an ideal hatching local---it was 76 degrees today (i know i brag, forgive me). but the sad thing is that we have no peregrines of our own in so calif (maybe the channel islands, but they don't come inland often) if you agree, i'll be waiting at LAX for B, A and the eggs
! Heck -- for 76 degrees, I'll come and bring B and A and the eggs, and even LP! LOL

I agree with Paul and Ei - nothing more peaceful than watching our Pefas sit on their eggs. Their care and raising of their young is fascinating to watch. Some of our fellows humans could learn something from these avian parents. When does everyone think they may/could be a hatch here? It's so cold. Temp at nest box says 39 degree; it's May third! I drove through Rochester at 7:40 tonight, and what an eerie sight. We don't have "Tall" skyscrapers, but the top of each building -- the OCSR, TS building, B&L, HSBC, Xerox Tower-- was shrouded in clouds. It was something to see.

I have a question - Carol tweeted at 1:50 that A then LP were headed south. Has LP followed him south before this? Is is possible -- of course I know anything is possible with these Pefas -- that LP might want to take over the NB--especially if she is getting ready to lay her own eggs? Have any of the DT watchers noticed LP coming in to the airspace around TS Building? I think I remember MAK noting in one of her reports the other day that a third falcon was flying around. And Carol and Dana and watchers at KP --are you seeing any evidence that egg laying might be going on there?

do peregrines ever have a second clutch in the same breeding season? just thinking of the san marcos barn owls who had 2 clutches last year----but quest is young there is this one and next year, too
Yes, but it's a very rare occurrence. The loss of eggs would have to be very shortly after laying for re-cycling to happen. I was wondering the same thing. Ei - many of our song birds go on to have a second or even third clutch during the breeding season. Why is it that the falcons do not have a second or third? Is it due to the length of the incubation/fledging time? I 'm curious now.

I believe in fate and this is what's meant to be. With any luck Quest and Kendal will spoil their only child and next year will go smoother. Sad just the same! I'm with you there, MAK, but let us hold out for the last egg. May Quest and Kendal have the experience of rearing one fledgling. Keep our fingers crossed!

...not to mention the SUPER-ROMANCER, Archer! Another potential Harlequin topic. It's in the genes! M and K. Leading to grandson, Archer....torn between two lovers. And the heroine, Quest, on a journey to find True Love, with her Mexican Red Nail polish and back-pack transmitter...until she meets Kendal! A true bodice ripper for all time. ' And it all began with two peregines named Mariah and Kaver!
