If DC keeps taking the food... how does that bode for this pair??
No clue-though I would think if she really wanted to keep it she would have. Strange pair. I think she is letting him take it, maybe to show him how good she is at catching prey. I don't think she really likes him but he is the only game in town, no other tiercel seems to be able to take over the territory. If I recall correctly he took stuff last year too. But when it came to Orion he got his act together. Maybe because she let DC hatch the egg. She is a smart cookie. I think you are absolutely correct about all of this. Beauty is one smart cookie. I hope she prevails.

WOnderful pictures of Unity and Archer. Both are not here now, but neither is forgotten. She was quite striking wasn't she? She seems longer or taller than Beauty. And Archer is just a cutie. Reading about how Beauty came swooping into town last year makes me think that part of the animosity that DC displays is because of what happened last year. It was an uneasy alliance then, and it remains that way now. Who says birds don't have memories? I actually believe they do have memories. I see it in my own parrot. Thanks for posting the pictures, MAK.

Casper and Chessie Have Two Eggs at William Osler!!! April 05, 2013 - Etobicoke - William Osler
Tracy Simpson Reports:
My second stop yesterday was to check up our new pairing at the William Osler Hospital and their progress towards eggs. Casper is the most excited male and has done everything to bring eggs to the tray including flight displays, scrape work and vocalizing while Chessie is trying to sleep!! His enthusiasm is contagious and I now often stop by the site for a brief look at his antics of the day. Yesterday I went up to check the monitor and there were two beautiful eggs in the nest tray in full view!! Good going Casper and Chessie! Back downstairs, I spent some time on site watching the ledge and Casper was clearly on babysitting duties. He was sitting 5 feet to the left of the tray sleeping!! Every once in a while he would look back towards the tower with a look like, “I am sooo babysitting right now…!” While he was in guard-the-egg mode rather than cover-the-egg, the clutch is not yet complete and serious incubation will begin after the third one arrives.
On Wednesday, hospital security during rounds noticed the first egg in the tray and yesterday, on Thursday, the second was present. This dates the first egg to April 2nd and we are anxiously awaiting more!! Congratulations Casper and Chessie and the awesome folks at William Osler Hospital!! I will have pictures for you later today!!
Congratulations to all of our Canandian falcons - Chessie and Casper, our own Quest and Kendal, and Rhea Mae and Tiago, and all of the others...I love to see the stability and growth of the falcons, and only wish we could see this in our town. It helps to see the babies in Toronto, but I'm having serious "egg envy." Eggs, we need eggs.

Carp this isn't looking good for Sugar if Dot & P gang up on her. And the 6th of April is only 2 days away. Angel Egg we need your powers now more than ever.
I apologize as I sorta have my own vocab, Sugar is Beauty & Angel Egg is Unity & Archer's egg from last year I knew who you were referring to! We need lots of help and "powerful" help right about now. Not a good situation. Thank you to all the watchers who raced downtown. I think a battle may be brewing.

And I thought we had a calm Easter You know, jeanne, I was just thinking about that whole Easter thing. E aster was early this year. Last year, Good Friday was April 5 or 6. That's when we lost Unity, and Beauty returned from rehab. And Mariah and Beauty's battle was on an Easter Sunday too. I wonder what date that was? I wonder if hormones of these birds reach a sudden peak during that first week in April? Birds are so cyclical. I could count on the date that certain birds would return to my yard every spring and just stay for a week or so and move on. I wonder if that is how it is with these falcons. Scary day.
