And there's more...

By Kevin Dunphy.
There are a lot of dishes that are similar to this in Canada, so I don't think Poutine (Pronounced Poots-in in Rural Quebec) can be called Canada's National Dish.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, where I grew up, a similar dish essentially replaces the cheese with what is basically Turkey Stuffing (Bread crumbs, Butter, Salt & Pepper, Summer Savoury). It is called Fries-Dressing & Gravy. Fries, covered with Dressing (the turkey stuffing), all covered in Gravy.

It is served in nearly every restaurant in Newfoundland and Labrador, but not well known anywhere else in Canada.

I've never even seen a restaurant in Newfoundland serve Poutine, but I haven't lived there in nearly 15 years, so things may have changed.

This weekend, after the turkey is gone, they next day will be a fine meal of Fries-Dressing & Gravy. My wife makes the best dressing in the world!! MMMM-MMM!

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving Everyone! You Yanks have to wait a while yet - poor sods!

Yes, I almost forgot...Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to all our Canadian Friends....especially those at CPF and Harliequin!  :-)    I did spend a Columbus Day Weekend/Canadian thanksgiving weekend up in Canada about 15 years ago, and it was odd as so many places were closed.   But Happy Thanksgiving to all of our Canandian Friends!  (Including all of the falcons from here and there!)

Don't like those "headless" shots, but can totally identify with the "d#%( nail!"  pic

Congratulations to our tolerant parents, Swift and Beau – the first little head popped up in the tiny hours of this morning’s darkness. As has been pointed out it’s so small but it’s very new. There is now also a second little head under Swift as well; third still unconfirmed. True to form our recording software and streaming has decided to fall over in random ways this morning, but we’re on to it and will continue to make sure we can provide as much live coverage as possible. Bear with us! When we’ve edited some clips a little shorter they’ll be made available via this website ASAP.
But for now the good news is that new life has appeared up in the eyrie and we’ll be keeping close tabs from now on. Enjoy the new life!
Website hits have skyrocketed so we apologise if you’re having trouble getting on, or the camera pages play up. They active streams are being monitored all day and we’re developing more stable versions to be implemented very shortly.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3iICpGg-dw# Here's Beau taking his turn on the eggs.

This is so lovely to see.  Thank you, Donna, for posting.  I love watching how they so delicately step around the eggs.   It will be fun to watch the cam "down under"  to get our fix up "here".

Hard to tell sometimes at that distance! Miss Harlie!  Sad Glad to see Q and K at times!

Wish is was Miss Harlie as we all miss Harlie. Cheesy

Wish it was Miss Harlie too!  I think of her a lot!  She was our happy tale of the summer!
But so is our Quest!   I am always thrilled to see Quest, and her name was so appropriate!  M and K carry on with the  best of Quest and Rhea Mae and all of the offspring!   The family tree is amazing and mind boggling.

Do your own poutine. It is the best. 3 ingredients. That's all

Home oven french fries
Good curd cheese of the day ( important )
The best BBQ gravy

Never eat poutine in restaurant. Tongue

Come here anytime if you want to eat a good one. thumbsup

Nicole

Thanks for the offer...someday I will!

From what I gather, the secret is the freshness of the cheese curd.  It's just not available fresh anywhere else but Canada.

Ah, Ei, someone just opened in Rochester this past spring/summer.  La Petite Poutine...I think it is open at the public market downtown, and I think they have one of those  trendy food truck thingies.    I wanted to try it, but didn't get down to public maket on day it was open.  Has anyone in these parts tried it?  I am kind of intrigued.  It sounds like "heart attack on a plate"  -- which I can ill afford, but it still intrigues me.

The Rfalconcam merchandising team is working on calendars for 2012, and we need your help!  We would like followers of Rfalconcam to submit 1 wildlife picture they have photographed.  Yes, this photo needs to be one you have taken yourself.

Directions on how to submit your photo will follow.  In the meantime, this gives you a chance to go through your own archives and find us a whimsical, cute, spectacular, unique, or even scary view of the wildlife world.

Thanks for your efforts in this endeavor, and please wait for further instructions rather than posting your pictures here.

Your Rfalconcam Merchandising Team

I am so glad to see here that there will be a 2012 calendar.  I just walked past my October page tonight, and it's another beautiful snapshot that became part of the Falconcam calendar.  There have been so many wonderful pictures submitted.   MAK...your latest pic of the juvie black crowned heron must be part of it. I do hope that pics of Quest, Kendal and Harlequin are submitted.     So many talented photographers; so few months on which to print the pictures.    How about one for every day of the year?

Another good day with all three falcons sighted, thanks to you and MAK, and Joyce, and Dana, and Brian, and Dan and anyone else I have not listed.   Thank you for being out there!  And of course Donna and Ei for such good "eyes" for all of us!

Let National Geographic/Audobon Society know the link to the video.
They might be interested.

I agree with everyone!      This looks like a video that is on National Geographic!  You have to submit it.  Beautiful!

Beauty by main cam

I'm confused...great picture, but from what camera?  It's a really nice shot of surroundings and our Beauty?
Just a different view than I am accustomed to.

My bud MAK remembered to take some pics of the War Memorial statue this am. What a gorgeous looking monument. Yup Carol, way to low for the falcons. Thanks MAK

WOW, I've never seen this statue.  Where is it?   I  am going to have to come down...when I can...and take the MAK-tour!  See the statue, that wonderful night heron, all the hiding places...

Yay... I was correct! I think I posted earlier that I thought Archer left around Oct 10 or 11 for the past two years.        So he is still here.

Is this the first sighting of Archer in a few days?  I thought he might have left the area.  So you saw him tonight?  Maybe he will hang around for a few more weeks...or maybe the winter to defend his territory? Is that in the realm of possibility?  He does have two nest sites to protect/
630  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Blast from the past on: 28-Sep-11, 09:03:11 PM
Another blast from the past...this one a bit further back.  I don't know who took the picture.  I printed it soon after I saw it on my old not great printer.  It's been hanging on my office wall ever since. I discovered one of the work scanners can actually handle pictures...so...from 2006...

Kaver on his lilies watching a juvie go by.  I like to think it's Rhea Mae...

Lovely!
