Here's the bridge I took the pics of Denville from and a couple pics of the street my brother lives on.The water is rushing so fast in the houses, they can't pump it fast enough. It just rolls back in.

The Dover pic is across the highway from me. I have never seen it so bad. I don't think anyone is going any where for a few days.

Glad You and Kara are save.WOW, lots of water .Is your brother OK ?

Greetings Carla

Glad you are safe, Donna.  Those pics are terrifying.  The flooding damage all over is devastating.  Be safe.

Checking in From Smith Mt Lake, VA (near Lynchburg) and headed to western NC (Hickory) - NOTHING is forecast for either location.  As for home, it has already been downgraded to CAT 1 (85 MPH sustained winds at the eye-wall, not at the edges, remember).  Heavy rain is expected (we lowered the pool about a foot).  Loose stuff was brought in (except bird feeders, which were filled).  If a tree falls, cant do a thing about it anyway.  We'll be back home on Monday.  Oh!  Left 2 canarys in a coal mine - a bowl of ice cubes in each freezer to warn me if the power was off a long time.  If I find a frozen puddle, not eating the food!

That is a great idea Janet.  About the ice I mean.   thumbsup

and 3,000 posts!  You go girl!   clap

I , too, like the idea of the canary...I mean the bowl of ice cubes in the freezer.  New to me, but makes perfect sense!         And congrats about the 3K posts!    Stay safe, but I think you have escaped the worst of Irene.

yes And we laugh ALOT! We were having a great time following the Red-tailed hawks from one telephone pole to the next. We'd spot one, pull over get our cameras up and they'd take off either flying across a field to a tree or down to another pole. It was great fun! We had to have seen more than a dozen RTHs.  Grin

MAKfalcon (MAK): Joyce,Sue and I on thruway seeing several electric companies headed east no doubt for hurricane relief

I was on Thruway early and late evening last night and saw CARAVANS of power company trucks AND  caravans of huge trucks labeled   TREES!  They were all headed east and I presume south.  It was sobering.  Our lives go on but many other lives are being disrupted.  Keep them all in our thoughts.   Not just the inhabitants of the communities that are being impacted by Irene, but also all of these workers who are being imported to  help.  I hope all goes well, and that the impact of Irene is LESS than forecast!

Joyce picked me up today for a little road trip south of Rochester. Here's a link to view my album. No sign is required.  Grin

I didn't know it was down for a while. Just saw the "crashed" message and thought it was my machine.  Glad it is back up.

Confirmed Harlequin sighting! Am gonna try to get the camera moved again. Yay! I'm so glad she hasn't left us yet. Smiley
clap
Good job!  Confirmed Harlequin sighting!   Hope the camera person can get some pictures!    Was Harlie at the nest box?    That is pretty cool that parents and offspring are still hanging around the next box.

Thanks, kat, for the update.  Good to see Quest, and kendal.  I do hope Harlie is still around so we get one more glimpse of her...but she may have already left.  Let's hope that someone spots her --wherever she ends up!
685  Anything Else / Totally OT / Hurricane Irene on: 25-Aug-11, 02:57:08 PM
I remember Hurricane Gloria in 1985.  I was living on the north shore of Long Island, and Gloria hit the Island hard!    Lots of damage, flooding, and power outages. Not a fun time.  I hope that Irene drifts further east and does not hit the east coast as hard!

Beautiful video...especially the one of Glacier Bay.  Can't wait to see the rest of the pics.  Lovely.

Happy to hear that Unity may still be around.   Did she stay around all last winter?   I can't seem to recall.  It seems she's been here for a long time....looking at the pictures.  She wasn't identified early on, so she was Lady P.
So all three accounted for today...a good day!

I was in the outside garden cashier booth at Home Depot, and neither felt, heard, nor saw anything.  People inside the store, however, said stuff moved a bit.  This is in the Eastern Panhandle of WV, about 50 miles NW of DC.  No damage here that I've heard of.  I feel deprived, having totally missed it where I was, at work.

WOW, we felt more than you here in Jersey!!  Shocked That's just unreal!!!

Donna, I was just watching the late news and a California expert explained that in CA, the quakes run along fault lines, but in the east, the quakes affect the entire  "plate"  and the whole plate rolls and quakes which can affect a larger area.   That explains why it was felt into Toronto, Detroit, and part of the midwest.  Plate tectonics are pretty interesting, but we are entirely different here in the east then in the west.

abs-cheers

wave Well thank God the wine is alright!  laugh

So what is the address? WHere do we go in case of earthquake?  Tornado?  One did just touch down here in NY not far from where we all are -- and now Hurricane Irene may be hitting portions of our east coast.

And the Locusts are arriving....when?

Where is that wine and  what is your address?
