Sounds like training is just in time.  I only hope that little Harlequin's first flight goes well!

I don't think I would want to try poutine anywhere...New York, Paris, France, Quebec, Rochester, but it was funny after the posts here and then hearing our own dear Lonsberry here in Roc City.  The woman calling in from La Petite Poutine did sound sincere, so it caught my attention...but fries, cheese whey/curds and gravy....... in our health conscious  society  ?    Of which I am part!   But there is still a sick part of me that wants to try this dish?
 confused
Maybe the non -fledge watchers weekend  should be at La Petite Poutine?     Just asking.....?  since most of the Roc gals are in Toronto anyway?

!!! Lady Gaga has a fractured leg
July 06, 2011 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge
Dennis Patrick Reports:

After watching Lady Gaga and Spitfire doing so well in their flying skills it’s sad that we have to report that Lady Gaga has a fractured leg, we took her to a Vet this morning and he took an X-ray of both legs, it was very easy to see the fracture. As of right now she will be operated on tomorrow. It was sad to see Spitfire, Voltaire and Freddie last evening when we picked her up and the look on our faces was even sadder. We will keep you posted.
Gwen & Dennis, Site Co-ordinators for CPF

You Toronto watchers do have your hands full!  We will keep Lady  Gaga in our thoughts!  After all, she was  "born this way!"    and will have her way!    Fly strong, Lady Gaga!.

Shaky, I was listening to the radio and there is a poutine vender at the public market! Yes, I know this is off topic!
I heard this too, jeanne -- today on Lonsberry.   For some strange reason it made me want to go to the public market and try it.   French fries, gravy  (of what kind?)  and whey  (left over ....whatever?)
I did smile as I listened as I was getting ready to go to work!.....  Want to try it?  I've never had  it....
heart attack on a plate?

!!! Baby Harlequin is almost ready to take her first flights!
July 06, 2011 - Toronto - Don Mills
CPF Postmaster Reports:

Toronto – Don Mills – Harlequin sighting – July 6, 2011 – 11.15 am

Harlequin was very active on the webcam this morning, running back and forth along the nest ledge and stretching her wings. On each pass she seemed to get closer to the edge, looking over, and on one occasion I caught a flash of what might be Quest or Kendal’s wing, encouraging Harlequin to make the leap.

I was able to capture a few screen shots from the webcam, one of which was Harlequin jumping off the nest ledge onto the smaller ledge at the right. She has now jumped out of frame completely, and the webcam is showing an empty ledge.

It looked like more of a jump than a fledge, but Harlequin has expanded her horizons nonetheless.

Photos attached (apologies for the poor quality – I was making screen grabs from the webcam)

Loving all these pics of Harlequin.  Did we miss the "pantaloons" stage?  Has that come and gone and I missed it?     She is lovely.  I am enjoying seeing our Ms Harlequin getting ready to fledge.    It is going wayyyyyy toooo fast.

Look at her little mohawk!    gum

Thanks for getting her back in view!

It's almost overnight that little ball of fluff Harlie turned into a Pefa!    Long live the legacy!  Mariah,  Quest, and now Harlequin!   Fly strong, little one!   This is wonderful!
847  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Offspring / Re: Quest and Kendal - Toronto/Don Mills on: 06-Jul-11, 11:40:11 PM
...and she just flapped to the next ledge over!

Wish I'd brought my camera in today!

I'll try to point Camera 1 at her. Might need a bit more zoom though.  laugh

bow That's not funny, SHaky!   I just got home from work a little while ago, and I'm tired, and I do believe you are the Falcon Camera  God!   So I thought for one moment..YAYYYYYY!   we get to see Harlie, and then I knew it was YOU!      LOL.
848  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Offspring / Re: Quest and Kendal - Toronto/Don Mills on: 06-Jul-11, 11:27:05 AM
Oh My!  Now we can 't see her at all.  You will have to keep us posted, Kat!

Here are some pictures from our day trip to Buffalo this past Sunday, 1/3/2011.  It includes time spent at Central Terminal, and the end of the album has numerous pics from the University of Buffalo.  Hope you enjoy !

Absolutely gorgeous, beautiful, breath-taking pictures of the juvies and parents in Buffalo.  You take wonderful pictures, Dana!   I felt like I was there.   I wish I was!

Holy schmoly Harlequin's changed so much over the long weekend. I've been peeking in at her, but have to say, today I can't tell her from Quest! In any regard, just wanted to let y'all know that a few of us here at Harlequin have volunteered for the fledge watch and are expecting some training at some point this week. Feeling two ways about this! Don't want to see her fly away!

None of us want to see her fly away, Kat.  But what a joy and privilege all of you will have!  I know you will keep us all posted.   I only wish I could be there!
Little Harlequin sure has changed!   I caught a glimpse of her today hiding out in the corner, and she did look dark.  No more ball of fuzz.
Wear sneakers!

Thank you Joyce for a  great explanation and helping me to understand a bit more of what is going on.

(movie) recap of the evening

Thank you to Donna and Shaky?   To whom ever posted the fireworks,  thank you.  Made me remember it has been exactly ten years since I was downtown and saw them live!  So thank you for allowing us to see them.   Last five have been working 4th of July nights so I do appreciate the view.
853  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Offspring / Re: Linn & Reuben - Scarborough/Yellow Pages on: 05-Jul-11, 12:33:06 AM

Poitin?! Is this what I think it is, Shaky??? That'll take the rust off your bumpers...

Poutine is poutine, not Irish booze.

Guess I better look that one up!!

Ahhh - found it! Sounds like one would want to wash that down with poitin!!

So I shouldn't add puttanesca?    (spelling is probably wrong)  But it is a great  sauce!

Univ of Buffalo Falcons - 7/3/11 - Just a quick observation.  These 4 juvies and 2 adults are a joy to watch.  I so needed a Fledgling Fix after not having any to watch here in Rochester.

The talon tagging just before dark was better than any 4th of July Fireworks!  At least to us.    mbanana

One thing we were a little surprised by.  There is one very small male that is probably the youngest.  He is definitely getting more attention from BB (the mom).  She actually took about 15 mins to feed him while another two juvies looked on.  We've nick named him BB Jr (Baby Boy Jr).  lol

Not to worry about him though, he is flying and landing wonderfully.  We all gave him a 10 on his landing on the water tower when he joined his 3 siblings.  clap

If you live in or close to Buffalo, you should definitely get to one of the nest sites and check them out before these young ones leave the area.

Enjoy what is out there and keep your eyes wide open.  You never know what you'll see and be sure to share that excitement and observation with the people around you.  - Carol P.

You are a wise and seasoned watcher, Carol P.    Your report and words of advice gave  me goose bumps.
Your love for what you do is evident, and I  hope that watchers in Buffalo heed your advice.
