Rochester Falcon Watchers Kathy O, Lisa McK, Dana and Carol P visited with Pigott and her mate this past weekend, Saturday, 9/20/14.  We saw nothing until they both flew in from the north at 3:00 pm.  They were very active with each other, both visiting at the nest box twice and ee-chupping up a storm.  We remained until after the sun set, when Pigott tucked into a ledge below her nest box and her mate settled into a nook on a nearby church.  Pretty sure, by the look of all the white wash below these spots, that this is where they roost at night.  It was a fun day spent with our Pigott and her beau.   

Bet this was quite the treat getting to see them like this!

This year HK is finally 5 years old, old enough to breed. He jumped the gun and proclaimed his readiness by building a huge nest last year near Honey Bee. But Sterling played hard to get. I think she told HK he had to grow up and stop fooling around first.

Nice! We have been seeing quite a few hummingbirds around our house still-would have thought they'd be gone by now-maybe that means we are going to have a warm fall!

 "DDT was banned in the Northern Hemisphere and regulated worldwide in the 1970s, but some places in the Southern Hemisphere still use the insecticide."
I wonder where those places are?

DDT is legally used in parts of South America, Asia, and Africa to combat malaria.

Hmm, it helps some while killing others this DDT!!

Interesting article, Kris, thanks for sharing!  I didn't think they would go up after the shell either, but they must really want to know, to disturb Swift like that. That Cilla must be a very brave person-not sure I would want to upset a nesting pefa!
