Some sort of vent, perhaps? I think if it was a smoker s/he would be very close by for us to see so much smoke, which I imagine would dissipate pretty quickly in the wind at that height. Over the amount of time you have documented, we would likely have gotten a glimpse of him/her. However, it would be a good idea to check it out with building maintenance. Kapi in VT

Carla, I have tried this. In fact, I appear to be "registered" as it welcomes me and shows me as logged on by name. However, when I try to submit a message, it either sends it off to be "approved by owner" (and it is never seen again) or it tells me I have exceeded my daily message quota.
When I try to enter Ustream from Facebook, the "go to application" link on the Ustream page just takes me to a blank page. Shaky had suggested changing some settings on the application page but I can't get to anywhere that shows me settings to change.

Sorry that you are also having difficulty with the ustream chat but it is comforting to know that I am not the only one here with a geek-IQ in the single digits. Yesterday, when I tried to post, I was told that my message had been sent to an unnamed "owner" for approval...never to be seen again. Today, I have been told that I have exceeded my daily message quota! Like you, I just find it frustrating to be unable to do something that really can't be all that difficult. And, I have wasted way too much time trying. Kapi in VT

Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: third egg viability?

I think that the odd thing this year was having two eggs hatch on the same day. I don't remember that happening before, though it may have. What I can remember are lots of (what seemed like) endless waits between hatches in the past. The biggest problem with late hatches seemed to be assigning a sex at the time of banding as that is done on size. In times of stress, the smaller/younger chick might be sacrificed (Remember the year that Mariah was injured and Kaver had responsibility for everyone?) but that would not seem to be a threat at this point. Thank you to everyone who has been keeping watch. Like everyone else, I was relieved and thrilled to see the photos of Mariah and look forward to more from the "long lenses." The shots of the watchers reminded me of just how much I missed my usual summer trek to Rochester for Watchers Weekend. The best was seeing Brian wearing SHOES! Kapi in VT Small World Note: I was at a function sponsered by my Therapy Dog club the other night and a lurker from the yahoogroups list recognized my name. We had a nice chat about falcons in the midst of all the dog talk. She had also seen my "Kaver" license plate around town.

This is the first time I've tried to reply to anything on the forum so let's see if it works! Regarding raw feeding: I've been doing it with my dogs for over 8 years. You can't compare what they can eat to what humans can eat because their digestive systems are much shorter. Basically, things that would harm us pass right on through before they can be a problem. When my now 11 year old dog developed a life threatening grain allergy at about age 2.5, there were no grain free kibbles available. I had no choice but to make my own food. I am lucky in that I live near a free-range poultry farm and the chicken parts I get from the farm make the basis of his diet. Sherlock, at 11, is still doing agility classes and making therapy visits. My other dogs eat/have eaten raw as well even though they don't have to. Of the 3 cats who have been in residence since I started doing this, only one showed the least interest in the raw food. The Elder MaxCat would sit by the grinder and munch away on the mince I made as it came out of the grinder. As he lived to 18, I don't think it did him any damage. One thing I have always read about homemade cat food it that you need to be sure that it includes taurine which is a necessary component for a feline diet. Kapi in VT
