Hmmm..."twitcher" Did we know this word before? From Wikipedia:
The term twitcher, sometimes misapplied as a synonym for birder, is reserved for those who travel long distances to see a rare bird that would then be ticked, or checked off, on a list. The term originated in the 1950s, when it was used to describe the nervous behaviour of Howard Medhurst, a British birdwatcher. Prior terms for those who chased rarities were pot-hunter, tally-hunter, or tick-hunter. The main goal of twitching is often to accumulate species on one's lists. Some birders engage in competition to accumulate the longest species list. The act of the pursuit itself is referred to as a twitch or a chase. A rare bird that stays put long enough for people to see it is twitchable or chaseable.
Twitching is highly developed in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Denmark, Ireland, Finland and Sweden. The size of these countries makes it possible to travel throughout them quickly and with relative ease. The most popular twitches in the UK have drawn large crowds; for example, a group of approximately 5,000 people traveled to Kent, England, to view a Golden-winged Warbler. Twitchers have developed their own vocabulary. For example, a twitcher who fails to see a rare bird has dipped out; if other twitchers do see the bird, he may feel gripped off. Suppression is the act of concealing news of a rare bird from other twitchers.

My husband (who adores this movie) actually bought a Red Ryder BB Gun for my oldest son one Christmas. I didn't know anything about it and, just like the movie, he hid it until all the presents were unwrapped.
And...we have neighbors down the street who have that lamp in their window every Christmas!

It was only October and a lot of the leaves were still on the trees and the weight of the massive wet snow, was breaking branches, bringing down whole trees and wires and cables with them. It was just a horrible night!! Anne in dry, sunny, but cold Toronto
Ah yes - our October Surprise. Otherwise know as "Arborgeddon" because of all the trees that were lost.

No, they weren't told not to travel at that point. The problem was all the jack-knifed trailers that blocked the road because the storm started out as rain which froze and iced the roads. Then it started snowing on top of that. The snow piled up around everyone while they were blocked and then no one could move.
birdmusic - safely 15 minutes north of Buffalo with NO snow!

Thank you Bird Crazy!
It's a really musical time for me now that's for sure. I've got seven concerts with five different musical groups in a 2 1/2 week span! Two are today. I've got a couple hours break now before the next one tonight!

Nothing really grabbed me until today when #74 came in - the one on the bottom without the city scape. The font is nice, the colors are good, it shows motion, and adds a touch of humor - the falcon coming in for a landing and tilting the "R" - rockin' Rochester, as it were.
The upper one with the black background is even better, but I'm not sure how that would work in all the places it would be used.
