Burlington is not that far from Buffalo. Have to wonder if he ran into the pair at the Burlington Bridge, which is right next to a very busy raised highway. Plus I've heard there may be a 2nd pair in Burlington more in the city, while the Burlington Bridge is on the edge of Lake Ontario. Fly free soon Frightful! !!! Frightful Recovering October 14, 2010 - New York - Buffalo Frank Butson Reports:
This just in…The Owl Foundation, has a visitor from the United States! Meet “Frightful”, a young male Peregrine Falcon recovered in Burlington. Frightful is recovering from road rash and severe bruising to the underside of his right wing. He’s still very sore, but is enjoying the space and quail he’s receiving in his flight training complex. Frightful was banded at Buffalo Central Terminal this past spring.
Seems to be doing some what better...Get well soon Frightful!
Thanks for the email, Carol. It's wonderful to see a pic of Frightful! Unfortunately the BAS doesn't appear to have any interest in the Peregrines, except for the occasional photo-op and this year, they never even showed up for bandings. Very weird, and you'd think with Buffalo's exceptional and growing Peregrine nestings the BAS would be all over the Peregrines!

Ont, CA. We're all confused as to why they are still here. After they left their CT base camp, they were often seen around nearby church steeples. We were involved with other issues and just weren't checking closely anymore, thinking they had gone on their way. We definitely need more watchers here!
Thank you all for your kind thoughts~

BB at UB today Central Terminal's little Frightful was rescued today in Ontario, and taken to a rehab. Nothing serious, a wing abrasion, and release is anticipated shortly. On a sadder note, Central Terminal's Dyngus likely had a fatal collision with a car as he was found by the Clinton exit of the thruway this week. These reports along with Roger having seen a lot of flying activity at CT a couple days ago, make we wonder why they are still in the vicinity at this time of year. I would have expected them to be migrating by now, and especially Dyngus, going north instead of south as winter approaches is curious.

It seemed that the intruder kept looking directly at BB as if he expected her to help him. That, plus his smaller size, makes me think it might have been Smoky if he survived the earlier fight when he lost the nest.
Then, after this fight for the UB nest, Roger and I were on hand to see a third bird trying for the CT nest. Stash was on the perch and he screamed for Stella who was inside the nestbox, and the two of them were very hostile to the intruder who then left. If Smoky survived the UB fight, could he have also been the CT intruder?

Remember the fight for nest at UB March 30? Well the video is now on the blog! Fight between two Peregrine tiercels over a nest containing three eggs on Mar 20, 2010.. Male "Yankee" (banded in Niagara Gorge 2008) fights an unknown male, which may be the previous unbanded male from this nest in 2009 called "Smoky" Smoky was displaced in an earlier fight.. During the fight, the female, "BB", a banded falcon from Detroit, enters the nest. At some point she is seen trying to move the eggs to safety. After the fight it is discovered that one egg was broken in half. Later the next day another and final egg is laid. Yankee sustained non-fatal injuries to the head but continued to hunt and bring prey to BB. All three eggs produced healthy fledges, named, Harry, Hagrid and Ron. Video captured from Hi-def webcam.

Rochester Rocks! bguitar Roger and I met many of the fantastic Rochester falcon-watchers this weekend at the Saturday breakfast in the park. More watchers arrived after these pictures were taken. I wish they would all move to Buffalo! Callidora was spotted bringing her breakfast to the event which she ate from a building next to the park! Later, two pefas were seen flying overhead before they disappeared behind the buildings. We hope Callidora's brother Jemison can soon join her and give the dedicated falcon watchers a wonderful treat! Thanks for the great time, Rochester!
