Many many years ago, my mentor in Siamese Breeding had CFA's Best Siamese, who was in considerable demand as a stud. One nice lady, who was interested in starting a new line of Himalayan cats, asked to breed her Persian girl to him. That was OK, but Frodo stood back and clearly said, "Mom, I can't do this". The solution was to clip the girl down, whereupon he finally consented to do the deed... Carol now in WV

This is a good time to acknowledge that, of all the Falcon groups, (that I've checked anyway), WE have far and away the best quality of both viewing options AND communications, and it's pretty much due to Shaky's talents and dedication. Thank You, and Happy Birthday! Carol WV

Another blog! I can't get enough of these cubbies Panda Updates Thursday, July 18 <snip> Also, we have not supplemented the cubs with formula since the first day. So, all of the weight gain is because they are nursing really well and thriving on Lun Lun’s milk. We are thrilled with this and we are so lucky that Lun Lun is such an excellent mother. Rebecca Snyder, PhD Curator of Mammals[/i] REALLY great that these babies are gaining weight without needing supplementation! Carol WV

It's amazing how trusting animals can be. A friend of mine and I were walking thru some woods with her family Doberman once and we heard a yelp from Murphy who came running out of the woods to us. He had a dozen or so porcupine quills in his face, tongue and mouth. This was maybe my 3rd time being around this dog and he was trusting enough to let me pull them out while my friend held him. When I lived in NH, long ago, I worked briefly for a Vet. The local surgeon had a pair of Irish Setters. At least twice a week, we would arrive to open the clinic, and find the girl's leash tied to the doorknob, and her face full of quills. We'd give her a little sedative and remove them, then call him to come get her. She'd get them not only all over her face, but inside her mouth and even under her tongue! A few days later, and she was back Carol Now in WV

That post did go overboard...but the research is serious...and cats' impact on birds and other wildlife is substantial. It's one of the reasons I keep my little killers indoors (that and it's better for their health).
Free-roaming cats' greatest impact is is on small rodents, not birds. Healthy birds can, after all, FLY. The myth that cats bear the primary responsibility for bird decreases is exactly that, a myth. Habitat destruction is a much more significant cause. Even the ubiquitous Whitetail Deer has been videoed eating eggs and nestlings. The most widely touted "study" blaming cats was produced by the woman in DC who was convicted of trying to poison feral cats. For the record; I keep my own cats inside as well, for their own safety, and fervently wish others would do the same. Carol WV
