Cool your jets, folks. This proposed legislation was pushed by the Animal Rights crowd, and it covered all training videos, etc., to be eliminated under the pretext of outlawing "crush" videos. It was well and properly researched, and properly presented and decided by the SCOTUS, as an overly broad attack on legitimate animal training and husbandry practices and videos, sensationalized as usual by the PETA and H$U$ crazies. It was a good case, and properly handled by the Supreme Court. There will be a followup, which does NOT outlaw legitimate animal-related videos, but is rather narrowed down to ONLY outlaw the "crush" videos, which incidentally, those doing the research and presenting the case to the court even had a hard time finding. Carol (who was closely connected with the case)

My kids did not get stung by honey bees unless they stepped on them. They learned to put honey on their fingers and feed tired bees and watch them fly off replenished. Kay
That is really nice! As most here know, I am a Garden Cashier at our local Home Depot in the summer. Several times now, one of our local traveling bees has decided that the horizontal slots in our cash register drawers look like the entrances to their hives, and repeatedly try to get into them. They eventually move on, but it's kinda sad seeing them so confused. They usually just keep very busy working on all our flowers. Carol WV

Thanks Everybody! Man! Those crab legs were sweet! <snip> Got so wrapped up in the concrete (lots of pictures will be forthcoming - Donna has had a preview) that I lost track of time - had to run to Home Depot for instant plant gratification HaHa, I am a Designated Garden Cashier at ours, so I am exposed to plant gratification all day <G> Unfortunately, it doesn't stop me from bringing plenty of them home Also, whenever the Red Cross has a blood drawing at the local racetrack and casino, donors get a coupon for the Epic Buffet... http://www.ctownraces.com/site/EPIC-buffet.phpand my neighbor and I go on a Tuesday night to eat very good crab legs til we can't walk Carol WV

Like it or not, the herds and flocks must be thinned. Over population and starvation are horrible options. Coming from a family of hunters, I firmly believe that the hunters and outdoorsmen really care about the herds and want healthy ones. Thinning the herd is part of the process.
Many states have programs such as Hunters for the Hungry: http://www.h4hungry.org/This is particularly effective in states where there are way too many deer, and way too many hungry people. Carol WV

Yes Carol, Oscar has a new home with other rescues...a Bischon from a puppy mill and some other cats and dogs. This guy sounds like me...too many kittens. So far, I have 0 this year. Guess the birth control works.
Were you able to get Feral Stat? I had quite a nice exchange with the people, and they were supposed to let me know when it would be available again, as their company owner or some such had died and they were not shipping at that time... Carol (whose two yard kitties are fat, sigh...)

A friend of mine received this in his email from his friend. He found 2 kittens in a dumpster, 1 had died and this one survived. His name is Oscar, (as in Oscar the grouch). He is 2 weeks old. So cute. Looks as though Oscar has a new Mom? Carol WV Cat Person

You don't think it was all imported do you?
Not hardly... Just think of the revenue it would bring if it were an "official" crop. Carol WV where it also grows wild

They should harvest some of that weed. I hear a lot of people will buy it.

My Niece in DC sent me this tonight :-)
"I saved a pigeon this morning. I was riding up the escalator at Rosslyn station and saw a pigeon trying to walk up the metal machinery covering near the down escalator. Of course he couldn't because it's slippery. He didn't seem to be able to fly. I hesitated, thinking "Should I try to rescue the pigeon? Is anybody else going to try to rescue him? Will it be weird?". At the top of the escalator I almost gravitated to the down escalator, and then found myself on it. As I neared the pigeon I still was hesitant. "What will everyone think?" Then I knew it was my last chance and I put out my newspaper and scooped him over toward me so I could try to pick him up. Much to my surprise, he just let me pick him up. I folded him somewhat into the newspaper and continued down the escalator. Nobody said anything at all. Then I just went to the up escalator and rode up. To get out, I went to the station manager, who, when he saw the pigeon, recoiled and asked me if I was going to take him outside, and then let me through the manual gate. I put the pigeon on the sidewalk and hoped he could make it on his own from there. I looked at my hands and they had grease all over them. I hotfooted it to the bathroom at Starbucks and washed my hands like six times. Then after I got my coffee I dropped off my coat to have it dry cleaned. I hope the pigeon will be fine."

Good points, Janet. I've often wondered whether the presence of large numbers of people with binoculars, cameras, cell phones, and radios might deter crime to some extent. Maybe someone could make a case for the falcon watchers as an asset -- sort of a Neighborhood Watch Association.

This is an issue that the Railfan community faces as well. The transportation security factions don't always appreciate the value of alert supporters keeping an eye out for anything unusual Carol WV Railfan
