Be safe everyone! Sounds like a doozy of a storm coming. According to our weatherpeople, Rochester will escape this one. Thank goodness
Let us know how you're doing.
From my local alert: A WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM EST SATURDAY. * PRECIPITATION TYPE...HEAVY SNOW. * ACCUMULATIONS...WIDESPREAD STORM TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 20 TO 30 INCHES...WITH SOME LOCATIONS RECEIVING LOCALLY HEAVIER AMOUNTS ESPECIALLY ACROSS WESTERN MARYLAND AND THE EASTERN WEST VIRGINIA PANHANDLE. * TIMING...SNOW WILL CONTINUE THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING. THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL WILL OCCUR THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING WITH THE MOST HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS OCCURRING OVERNIGHT. The DishNetwork antenna can't see the satellites through the storm, surprise surprise. But as long as the electricity and frontiernet hold up, we'll be fine Carol in the Eastern West Virginia Panhandle, sigh...

This is very sad for both Mei Lan and Tai Shan. Forced breeding, indoctrination, cramped quarters-sounds like a puppy mill. Please... "Puppy Mill" is a term coined by PETA and H$U$ minions, who use it to describe ANYone who breeds any animal. Of course there are some substandard breeders, and they need to be stopped, but PM is an over worked and non-defined term, certainly not applicable to a Panda conservation program. FORCED breeding? Another term used by those who believe in the eventual elimination of all animals from humans' lives. Rather than condemning the Chinese program, we should be lauding it, as one of the REAL conservation efforts. Thank you, Carol WV

I just printed it out and IF I find the time this weekend, I think I'll "cook up" a batch. Thanks!
If I were making this, and quite possibly will before winter is over, I would substitute some sort of animal fat, probably the steak trimmings sold in most grocery stores as "suet". I'm not sure that the hydrogenated stuff in "shortening" is any better for the birds than it is for people. I did make up a batch with partially melted scraps of steak fat, plus all the other goodies, a few years ago, and within 15 minutes, every grackle in three counties was here. They polished off the whole thing within the hour Carol WV

that is probably it, we have the old version because we surf with a dinosaur and for some reason it can't take a faster version.
I did manage to get a link to Firefox 2.0.0.20, and am hoping that that's enough of an upgrade to keep going for a while. My silly Son (my Tech Support) keeps telling me that my nine-year old G4 Cube meeds to be replaced. Ha, just because HE gets a new Powerbook every other year. Carol WV

Tonight at 10:00 pm on the National Geographic Channel, the new season of Dog Town starts. This is the place where I spent a week working with animal rescue. Check it out. It is a wonderful place.
They are the ones who took and rehabilitated all but one of Michael Vick's dogs. At least one is now a Certified Therapy Dog. All this after Wayne Pacelle and H$U$ falsely claimed they were caring for the dogs, (SEND MONEY!), and when called on the lie, recommended that all of them be put down. BF has its troubles too, but they do indeed care well for a lot of animals. A friend of mine also volunteers there for her "vacation". Carol WV

Not exactly a NEW feeder, but the saga of the Home Depot HOSPs where I work continues :-) Someone broke a bag of sunflower/safflower seed at the store. The contents somehow got collected and stashed in an open cabinet in outside garden, where I spend my days (until the Christmas Trees are gone anyway). And somehow, some of that seed gets "spilled" over in a sheltered corner a couple of times a day. Then someone found a small bag of mixed seed with a slit in it, so some of that gets "spilled" a couple of times a day as well. The other day my partner in crime noticed some birds under the cabinet in which the first bag's contents got stashed. When she investigated, she found that they had torn the bag inside the cabinet, and were shoveling seed out onto the floor, where their buddies were enjoying it. I can just hear them now: "OK Roger, nobody's looking, kick some more out". Carol WV

I'm kitty-sitting my Niece's cat, Pacifica, again, while Kris is out of the country for work. She's a mixed breed kitty from guadalajara, who looks like a NFC. Carol WV
