You know, that made me realize I haven't heard any chickadees this weekend. They must be on their way to wherever they go for the winter...
I think Chickadees typically stick around all winter -- they cache seeds and nuts to get through the winter when there aren't as many insects and caterpillars to eat. There have been some interesting studies about Chickadee brain growth during the caching period... They may not go far, but they leave this little patch of yard about the time the juncos arrive, so it seems a bit early to me. Or maybe the juncos are late. I'd love to read that...not much time for scholarly pursuits lately. |

This was a nice idea. Most of these guys were in the bird baths:  chickadees Dot in PA You know, that made me realize I haven't heard any chickadees this weekend. They must be on their way to wherever they go for the winter... Funny, my Chickadees come back for the Winter! Waiting for them. I guess they don't go all that far then! |

On the way to & from the grocery store...
3 ducks in flight-couldn't tell what kind-just the flapping like mad & not getting very far of a duck
2 kettles of Turkey Vultures
2 probably blue jays-size was right & they were doing the single flap/bullet glide of a blue jay
Small flock of LBJs
3 mourning doves

Well, not always.  I guess Kaver was still a bit short on cash after this purchase...  But he soon learned how to make do on a limited budget.  Then we found out what he was REALLY spending the extra cash on...  The cash he earned from doing this.  I guess it was Dad's pin-up days that gave the girls the idea...  |

Kendal still there now. 3:58pm No sign of Q
Isn't it odd that there's no bonding being done at the NB between Q & K? We probably just haven't caught it. B&A & RM&T really only spend a few minutes at most together before (usually) the tiercel takes off. Or they're bonding on a different ledge. This is the first scrape I've watched like this-they may consider the whole side of the building their scrape, not just the cubby with the box. |

4 crows (yes, I'm sure-part of the resident flock)
3 not sure-small birds that fly out of the trees & across the road every morning as I'm driving into the parking lot at work
1 different not sure-thought about flying into the right side of my car as I drove home but made a U turn just in time...
