A pair of parrots are putting the fear of dog into would-be thieves after learning to imitate barking. Green-winged macaws Elvis and Cilla have been on duty at a security company for the past year.

Owner Trevor Bate, 44, said: ‘They picked it up when we lived in Spain, where our neighbour had a Scottie dog called Bailey and it would bark all the time. His owner would come out and shout at him. Once we returned to the UK, we thought this would be an ideal way of saving money on a guard dog.’

‘Elvis and Cilla might sound mean at times but they are really friendly birds,’ said Mr Bate’s wife, Louise, 42. ‘They’re part of the family, so I thought it was fair to include them in the family business.’

The birds stand watch outside MP Guarding security company, in Telford, Shropshire, and Mrs Bate hopes they will breed – despite Elvis’s lack of interest at the moment.

And now I'm totally curious to see how far it will go before it has to turn back...  

Beauty has turned into quite a ham. As soon as Camera 1 was about to pan off of her, she jumped into plain view of the other cameras.

Of course, I hadn't spotted Her Haminess' move quite yet...I was still slaving away in real time.

Check the Dailies tomorrow morning. Camera 1's should be very interesting.

And since I don't see steam coming out your ears I'd guess the tour, which is still ongoing, is intentional!

So...at first I was thinking it was a nice slow pan over to watch the downtown skyline



Then I realized Beauty was at home when the panning started...

...which seems odd to me.  Made me wonder if Cam 1 has decided to have a mind of it's own again.

Early visit this morning 

I actually saw Mariah go up to the lilies now and then, but Kaver was there the majority of the time.  Now and then a fledgling made it up there too, following dad.   

I remember fledglings following Kaver up there...one of the pictures I have in my office is Kaver perched on a lily with a fledgling flying up toward him.  I have no idea who took the picture or when...

It would be nice if the Beautyful one would perch on the camera side when she is by the main cam  so we could see her better. 

But she never does, does she?  You wouldn't think they were such creatures of habit, but look at her 5th column south side of Xerox...same spot every single time she's up there.

And back in the "olden" days...if there was a bird on the Kodak lilies it was Kaver...no one else ever goes there.

Where is she now? Still in Northumberland County, hanging out on the Little Wicomico River! Or at least, that's where NX the Bald Eagle was on Saturday. In and out of spotty cell coverage areas, so no data from today -- but the area where she is looks to be an excellent spot to be an eagle!

Nope, I wasn't worried...not one tiny little bit...

Is that a bare spot on her chest or is it just ruffled feathers?    I couldn't zoom in enough to be sure.

I didn't see anything amiss earlier...she was scraping in the gravel, so she probably did floof out her feathers...

I guess it's safe to assume that Harlequin has flown off for a life of her own? I'll miss that silly one and wish her the best that life can offer her.

Sigh!  I hate this part...but I have to believe we'll see her again!

Not always Ei. I've observed our downtown bunch at times flying through over the river without making a sound. 

I've never seen that before, but I've learned to never say never!  Learn something new every day!  Thanks!
