...Kate and Cinnamon seem to be starting to do quite well, have been fed some, are starting to develop their skills. I do so hope that they do well, manage to persist and grow, turn into skilled and daunting adults!! If wishes could make this possible, I'm sure that their way would be clear, as I know you all are pulling hard for them. It's really all we can do. The best we can do. The rest is up to them!

Thank you for the report, Anne! I can just see our little Mini playing in the puddle...what a beautiful picture! Rhea Mae has been on the ledge for a while now. She keeps looking off to her left -west, I think?-probably one of the youngsters over that way...she's watching...

Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Peregrine Parenting 101

One parenting skill that always fascinates me is the flying assist...a new flier starts getting tired on a long flight and starts losing altitude. Then Mom or Dad or both arrive and fly under the youngster, sometimes touching, boosting them higher and higher until they get where they're going safely. The first time I heard of Mariah doing it I couldn't believe she was so talented, though we KNOW she's the best peregrine Mom ever . Then I heard of another, and another...someone reported a Buffalo parent-was it Stella or BB?-doing it just recently. Apparently it's all part of peregrine parenting 101!

Has anyone seen Kendal since banding? I have yet to see him on cam since then. That is one scarce bird.
I did see him do a touch & go when the cam was zoomed out (I guess the people in the office were tired of hearing about the blinds & being on the internet) but it was on the right side of the ledge. He doesn't seem to do the up close thing-which is pretty typical once the female eyases are bigger than the tiercel...

Thanks carly. I was thinking something similar-Kate & Cinnamon aren't quite ready for flight lessons yet & Sunshine has been at it for over 2 weeks now-but I'm glad to hear your experiences bear that out. The only thing I can add is I've seen more of both adults perched on the ledge since Kate & Cinnamon flew & I've been thinking they're trying to get them back to the ledge. Once that's accomplished the rest of the lessons can begin in earnest.

All three accounted for at dark June 28, 2011 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre Linda Woods Reports:
Lots of shuffling around by Kate and Cinnamon, but the end of day, we weren’t sure who we were watching closely. I couldn’t get a band colour to Identify. One bird was on the Phoenix building and was being watched closely by Annie when I arrived. Janine joined us shortly afterwards. This bird flew over to the lower 130 south side and ran the east side of this area before taking off again. It was on Lombard Place for a short time before taking flight again and back to lower 130. Off again and it ended up on the low roof of south east corner of Richmond and York just north of the Keg. Annie and Janine stayed on the ground, while I headed for the 43rd. This bird took off again and headed south along York St and we lost sight of it. We finally found it on the east side of the DBRS building. At this time I took the opportunity to scan for the other two. At dark we had a juvenile on the north east lower 120 Adelaide, lying down, as it was earlier. Sunshine on the north east corner of 130 Adelaide and one on the DBRS building. Apparently, filming will resume tomorrow in and around this direct area. Not sure if they are filming again on the roof areas, like they were over the weekend. The film shoot notice that went around the neighbourhood did not indicate that.
We only saw one food drop, as we spent a lot of time on the south side of 120 and 130. Not sure who got a share of this meal Posted on June 28, 2011 9:59 pm

Not a great capture-had to grab it quick-but look at that wing! Wow! Look at that wing on Harlie! What is her expected fledge date? Numbers elude me. General rule of thumb is around 40 days for females...so 12 or so days...Sunshine fledged at 43 days...haven't done the math for the others...
