This has got to be one of the best pictures all season...

MOMMY!  They called me a name, Mommy!  They said I was a fledgling!  It's not true, is it Mommy?
10563  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Offspring / Re: Quest and Kendal - Toronto/Don Mills on: 20-Jun-11, 05:01:12 PM
Isn't she a little early to be doing this?
Not really-usually banding day is the day they discover they CAN get out of the nest tray & start wandering, so she's just a day ahead of schedule!
10564  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Offspring / Re: Quest and Kendal - Toronto/Don Mills on: 20-Jun-11, 04:57:58 PM
I'm afraid to look. You know, this morning, she was peering  or leaning over that scrape side and I had a feeling she was going to go over.     Can she get back in?   There doesn't appear to be a lot of space on that ledge.

There's plenty of room to the right, though she might wander out of view.  She might be able to get back in, but usually once they find out they can get out they're in & out all the time.

I don't know...looks like Kate on the stand pipe to me.  Not that she couldn't make it back to the nest ledge, just not likely on her first day out...

June 20, 2011 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre
Harry Crawford Reports:

I arrived on scene (City Hall) at 7:30am.  Cinnamon and Sunshine
were were they were when Linda left last night.  Kate was still on
the nest ledge but William was not on the lower Sheraton building.
I was concerned that Kate might take flight so I stayed at the front
of 120 Adelaide.  Good thing - William appeared later on the west
side of the ‘Phoenix’ building.  All four juveniles were seen by
8am.

Zoe arrived shortly after.  She remained watching William and Kate
and I took up watching Cinnamon and Sunshine from ‘the rocks’ on
York St.  William quickly moved around to the south side of the
building and eventually up to the roof (we think).  We tried to view
from all angles from the street to no avail so I went up to 43.  The
view from the men’s washroom doesn’t cover the whole ‘Phoenix’
building.  The view should be better from the women’s washroom - no
I didn’t!

While I was up there, Sunshine took a pass at Cinnamon, likely to
get him to fly.  He eventually tried to get back to the roof above
him from the top of the pillar, missed the landing and took off over
to the Bell building, landing on the east-west segment between the
north and south buildings.  I came down and met up with Zoe who was
watching a juvenile peregrine on the penthouse of the north Bell
building.  This was a big bird!  This had to be Kate.  So when I
left before lunch, we probably had Sunshine, sleeping on the north
west corner of 130 Adelaide, William somewhere on the ‘Phoenix’
building and Kate and Cinnamon somewhere on the Bell complex.

This is going to be one complicated afternoon and evening.  Good
luck Zoe, Annie and Linda.

Observation for Toronto - Sheraton Centre

I was thinking the same thing but she might be laying at the back of the nest tray. This is a screenshot of the mini view on the news page WAY over lightened, but I think I see a feathery lump there...

!!! Cinnamon Takes Flight!
June 19, 2011 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre
Linda Woods Reports:
After taking over the watch from Zoe, and keeping an eye on William. I ventured up to the 43rd to have a birds eye view of the movements.  Around 3:30p.m. Sunshine did a food exchange with Rhea Mae! At 6:15p.m.,  Keeping my eye on  William and scanning the roof tops,  I saw some movement on the upper level of 120 Adelaide St.  At first I thought it was Sunshine, but saw that it was looking a little unsteady. A close look at the glowing red tape on the leg band confirmed it was Cinnamon! SURPRISE! Good landing. He wandered about that area, before settling down on the north west facing silver strut, where he laid down for the night. Kate had a good chow down and the entire nest ledge to herself for a short time, before Sunshine returned to the  nest ledge.

William remained on the lower structure of the Sheraton Hotel, and that is where, hopefully he will be in the morning.

Good Luck Harry!

Now that's a surprise!  I guess it was Sunshine with the full crop & Kate further down the ledge last night!  Shocked

Look at that crop!  Not much fluff left on Kate (I think)...still some fluff on Cinnamon down the ledge...

!!! William found
June 19, 2011 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre
Harry Crawford Reports:
After checking a dozen or more roof
tops, I found him on the south ledge of the lower level portion of
the Sheraton Centre.

clap He had me worried, but there are SO many places to hide around there.  So he made it from the ledge, across the street & back, though lower down.  Hopefully safely back to the nest ledge soon!

William fledged yesterday
June 18, 2011 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre
Harry Crawford Reports:

According to Linda and Zoe, William fledged late yesterday
afternoon.  I arrived on site at 7:20am to find an adult and
juvenile on the north west corner of 130 Adelaide.  Earlier in the
morning, three juveniles were visible on the nest ledge via the
webcam.  When I viewed the building from the 43rd floor of the
hotel, nothing was visible.  The adult had disappeared.  I waited
around for some time and the juvenile appeared from under the north
east corner.  It was hidden from view.  I couldn’t see if it was
William because the white tape was not visible with the double
window panes.  I eventually relocated to the south east corner of
the City Hall square.  From time to time, I could see the juvenile
on 130 Adelaide.  It made a few attempts to run along the ledge,
flapping all the time.  It could well have been William.  Normal
adult activity was seen as well.

Zoe arrived and took up the courtyard at 130 Adelaide.  The juvenile
did not appear again.  Hopefully the afternoon crew can establish
the identity of the juvenile on 130 Adelaide.
10575  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Offspring / Re: Quest and Kendal - Toronto/Don Mills on: 18-Jun-11, 03:42:29 PM
Sure hope they consider giving Quest an enclosed box so she won't have to spend half her days being an Mumbrella from the sun & rain next year.

Funny you are talking about this as Frank told me that last night on our fledge watch that Quest will likely be getting a nestbox with cover once the season is done.  This one was done quickly to respond to an urgent situation.

That is funny...she's a first in many ways!
