Still taking good care of the remaining egg...I'm very sad too...

(movie)

OK...it is SOOO against the odds that I don't even want to say anything...but Beauty is behaving like there's a hatch happening...

Probably wishful thinking, but...

Any sign of Unity brooding at KP?  If not could the DEC  or someone in authority go get those two eggs and substitute them for these two?  Since B & A are certainly attentive to this NB and there appears to be little evidence of Unity knowing what to do at her early age.  My guess is B & A would continue to incubate the eggs from KP - esp if they could be quickly exchanged.  Far fetched ?????
Not far fetched per se...egg fostering is a known and successful technique...but I think there are probably too many variables.  Are Unity's eggs fertile?  Are they still viable after sitting in the (probably hot) pigeon poo?  We don't know for absolute sure yet that all these eggs are non-viable.  Would Beauty continue to brood them?  Or would end-of-season hormones take over and she'd stop tending to the nest box?  What if she does re-clutch on her own?
10820  Rochester Falcons / Rfalconcam Now / Re: A and B switched-B in NB now on: 26-May-11, 09:32:20 PM
Is that second egg cracked too?  Check out the main camera picture at 8:04pm on May 26th.
I believe so...phooey...though I believe once the current eggs are gone (if all are not viable) there may be a chance at re-clutching

Sad    After all those hours of sitting, it has to be heartbreaking for Beauty.   The way she is looking at the egg looks sad.

And still she sits...keeping her eggs dry from the rain...I'm not giving up until Beauty does...

Phooey!  Looks like another one broken.

Well, if a reclutch is possible, I believe the current clutch needs to be gone first

I saw it too just  after 4 pm.  I 'm not sure if that is anything, or that same white spot that we've been seeing before this.   I remarked on a white spot on an egg the other day, but it had been noted earlier.

I think it's the same white spot that's been there since the egg was laid.
10826  Other Nature Related Information / General Nature Discussion / Other NYC red-tail nests on: 26-May-11, 04:50:03 PM
While Pale Male may be the most famous NYC red-tail there are MANY nests being followed in the Big Apple.

One that I've been following is nestled on the shoulders of St. Andrew at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.  It's particularly difficult to see the eyases until they're quite big.  For several weeks the watchers have known there were 2 babies.  Yesterday a 3rd fuzzy head appeared!

Could have sworn I saw this photo article posted, but I can't find it...

(I will not get snarky about the lack of fact checking by the reporters...I will not...not worth it...)

After banding they always seem to realize they're not glued to the nest box.  Silly me assumed it was the girls wandering around...

Nope!  Mini...formally known as Cinnamon...is leading the pack!

If you enlarge the photo and look closely, it sure looked like it was NOT empty.  The little one just didn't survive.

I respectfully disagree-the only thing I see in there is the caved in piece of shell-just further caved in than it was earlier.  But that's just my opinion.  I certainly could be wrong.
