That's why I DON'T like the skyline images, Ei.   Smiley At least, not for a logo.  I might buy a tee-shirt with that image done large but I think it is way too busy for a small logo image on a cap, for instance.

You might well be right, Kapi.  I still don't know where I'm going to land yet on my favorite design.  I'm just thinking out loud why logo items aren't more popular overall with this group-perhaps more so our personalities & group dynamics than the logo itself.

Since changing the logo for any established brand is dicey, I appreciate Shaky's explanation for doing so in this instance.  It will be interesting to see if the change makes a difference in sales.  I admit to having bought nothing with the current logo on it.  With the exception of some Birdorable items, my purchases have been more specific, like my Mariah and Kaver ornaments.  I don't think the images on any of the things I have bought would make good logos.  For me, at least, there is a significant difference between brand identification (logo) and what I choose for personal use or display.  I wonder if that distinction is shared with others and how much it accounts for the $100 vs $10,000 difference in purchases.  In any event, I think we need to keep the purpose of a logo (quick brand ID) in mind as we look for a  new one.

I agree with Kapi.  I did purchase one item (a cap) with the logo, but the vast majority of my purchases are to remember a particular bird-like the Quest tour shirt-or a particular memory-like the the M&K standoff mug.  And calendars...and...and...  Most items have the logo, but that wasn't the primary reason I purchased the item.  Perhaps that's a function of the type of group we are-more personally involved with each individual bird than the species as a whole.  Perhaps that's why I'm favoring the design(s) with the Rochester skyline (so far).

Here's a collage I did in 2005, I think. Of a ridiculously large blessing.

Here's to saying "thank you" for very small things as well, and to learning to be grateful for things that may not seem that good, but are gifts nevertheless.

Happy Thanksgiving, all.

Dale

Amen to that...Happy Thanksgiving one and all!

Thanks very much, Ei!  The Bermuda Longtail is a favorite of mine that I wanted to share.  Just didn't know how!

No problem!  Some of the pics at that link are fabulous.  Most have downloading disabled, but this chick is adorable!

BERMUDA LONGTAIL.  I am at a loss about posting a picture but please Google it.
It's a beautiful bird.

om Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

BERMUDA LONGTAIL
The White-tailed Tropicbird Phaethon lepturus, is a tropicbird, smallest of
three closely related seabirds of the tropical oceans and smallest member of the
order Phaethontiformes. It occurs in the tropical Atlantic, western Pacific and
Indian Oceans. It also breeds on some Caribbean islands, and a few pairs have
started nesting recently on Little Tobago, joining the Red-billed Tropicbird
colony. In addition to the tropical Atlantic, it nests as far north as Bermuda,
where it is locally called a "Longtail".

The White-tailed Tropicbird breeds on tropical islands laying a single egg
directly onto the ground or a cliff ledge. It disperses widely across the oceans
when not breeding, and sometimes wanders far. It feeds on fish and squid, caught
by surface plunging, but this species is a poor swimmer. The call is a high
screamed keee-keee-krrrt-krrt-krrt.

The adult White-tailed Tropicbird is a slender, mainly white bird, 71–80 cm long
including the very long central tail feathers, which double its total length.
The wingspan is 89–96 cm, and there is a black band on the inner wing There is
black through the eye and the bill is orange-yellow to orange red. The bill
colour, pure white back and black wing bar distinguish this species from
Red-billed.

Sexes are similar, although males average longer tailed, but juveniles lack the
tail streamers, have a green-yellow bill, and a finely barred back.

When I first saw the story about wild turkeys terrorizing a New York City neighborhood, I thought what else is new, right? We've established the fact - repeatedly - that New Yorkers are terrified of basically anything wild, from opossums to snakes to city park swans to caribou mounts so saying that New Yorkers are terrified of yet another fanged, feathered or furry menace is a bit like saying heart attacks are a downer. Belaboring that point quickly becomes derivative and you quite literally run out of ways to make fun of people. When that happens all you can do is let the story speak for itself.

So for your reading pleasure, I give you...the winged, wattled wraiths of Staten Island...

Donna-we know about those Staten Island girls...all big hair & nothing holding it up...  gum

I'm liking the 2 new entries......love the backgrounds..Mercury, TS and OCSR! #45 is cool too but what is the M...a split falcon? Scary.

The M is a stylized falcon face with the beak as the middle point...which is why I asked if it can be tweaked if chosen-smooth out the edges a bit...

We can work with the Crowdspring winner to get minor changes made after their design is chosen. We have 7 days after the Nov 30 deadline to choose a winner. Once a winner is chosen, we have to pay them. At that point we will use the logo we paid for.

If we don't like any of the logos well enough to pick a winner, we simply won't choose one and keep the $300.

Fair enough.
11996  Rochester Falcons / Rfalconcam Website News / Re: A New Logo on: 23-Nov-10, 07:05:52 PM
And another question...I'm just full of them today   Wink

Might I assume that the crowdspring winner (should we choose one) will not necessarily be the final logo?
Just thinking out loud...maybe another round of submissions with a poll here...A or B or neither?

Unless, of course, a clear favorite emerges before the deadline...

11997  Rochester Falcons / Rfalconcam Website News / Re: A New Logo on: 23-Nov-10, 06:39:53 PM
Another question-do we have to accept the submission as is or can we request a minor revision either before or after the contest?

And check out a new submission...#45...

Anyone can sign up at crowdSpring as a designer.

Yes, but not everyone has the software to put ideas into motion.  Is there anything free on the internet that we can use?

I'd recommend the GIMP

It's a very powerful program, on par with Adobe Photoshop, but if you're not versed in its use, you may have a hard time learning what you'd need to in order to build a pro-quality logo in time to meet the submission deadline...

Perhaps the deadline could be extended?

Since the logo that would eventually end up on the Rfalconcam site and merchandise would need to be more than just an idea, any logo candidate that can't meet that criterion would probably be a poor choice.

In other words, if it's too difficult to post the logo on Crowdspring, it's probably too difficult to put it on Rfalconcam.

I think she's asking about graphic design/drawing software-unless there is something built in there & I just haven't gotten there yet...
