Hi! Perhaps a big bug or a bird brake the web or it was escaping from a predator. It is difficult to ID spiders from pictures.... I can`t see some details... but I`m sure is a spider from Araneidae family. Perhaps Araneus genus... and a low chance to be Araneus diadematus, the cross spider that was introduced in NA from Europe. How big it was? Mirta I'm a miserable judge of sizes-the body was probably 1/2 inch long. Carol took some pictures too-I don't know if hers came out any better. But this is more than we knew at the time! Thanks!

Thanks Linda. I love this. It's like not wanting a book to end. I'm really hooked and rockin'! LOL bguitar
OK...one quick lesson since posting pictures to the forum was what got you motivated to get busy over here In the archive viewer-there's a "Share" button under the picture. Click that and a window will pop up with a bunch of text in it. Select and copy all the text in the window and paste it into your message. That's all there is to it! Just one other thing-sometime later in the year Shaky will start archiving the archive-it's stored for posterity, but the archive links won't be active any longer. So now would be a good time to start going through the pictures and saving the ones you LOVE (which is always too many of them )

For some perspective for those who haven't actually watched them live... Watcher's weekend, Saturday evening, a few of us were on the South Ave. garage for...I really don't recall how long...over an hour, probably closer to 2 hours...not a PEFA in sight. I was lucky that I turned around to look at Chase... This was all I saw of Callidora before she stooped on a duck over the river...

Hi Kitty, Is this the space I'm supposed to use? I don't know where to go to read the latest posts. I'm old (LOL) and not that computer savy. I'm also connected to my daughter's pc. She got a virus yesterday that won't let her on the internet. Now her pc is at the hopital until Wed. and I'm scared to death to use anything I'm not totaly sure of. Is the chat space safe? I don't know what AJAX is. I'm asking dumb ?????s but they are things that are going through my head. I really appreciate the fact that you are trying to help me. I don't remember how I got here! Sue Yippee! You made the first step, Sue...here is where most of the action happens! I have some chores to do right now, but we will figure out a way to get you comfortable with all the stuff here. As far as I know no one has ever had a problem with any nasty stuff anywhere on rfalconcam. Chat is safe, but it's not used much at this point. OK...back later...

Mirta- At the falcon watcher breakfast we had a spider join us. We learned how fast a web can be made and broken. We had a spider drop down from a tree to the food table on a web, that was broken in no time since it was obviously a busy spot. I tried taking some pictures that didn't come out very well, but here they are. Any commentary is appreciated! I didn't realize how bright the sun was-had to play with the contrast a bit...

Addendum to my last note-just rummaged through Quest's maps. At the same age, Quest was still in Rochester, but traveling outside normal viewing spots. At 10 days older (July 31, 2008) she made her first big move to Schenectady and then on to Cape Cod a few days later.
I remember Quest leaving at the end of July and yes, she was a bit older than Callidora, (they got a late start) and of course she could be out exploring new areas. It's good to talk about it so others know what's going on instead of just "wondering". She could very well be in a nook some where being Callidora. There's quite a few watcher's out so hopefully someone will figure out this puzzle. When she's hungry enough, she'll show herself. Thanks Ei. You know me...I will not speculate, but I will do research and find whatever facts I can to put things in perspective. The last to leave in 2008 was Susan B.-last report with a positive ID that I found was August 9th. The report was from Lou, but there were other watchers out that day...Mariah was trying to chase her out of the gorge.

No worrying permitted The normal progression is for juvies is to travel further & further from home base. As that happens they are seen at home less frequently. They're just perching somewhere we haven't seen them go before so we don't know to look there.
