These two are growing up WAY faster than I recall for previous broods (probably my memory)

Needed a reality check...CPF's Age Guide-featuring Archer's Dad, Freedom and his sister Isis...

Day 13

As they approach two weeks of age, the chicks are beginning to sit upright more often, but still lean on each other, or against the nest box much of the time.  The very beginnings of wing feather development are also seen around this time.

Day 15

Around day 15, the chicks are beginning to enter the "hunchback" phase, during which they are often seen in the pose above, with their feet splayed out in front of them and their head angled forward.

They're right on schedule...

Not even 2 weeks old & he's up on his feet!  OK, so he went directly to his face, but still...

And I'd swear I saw their tail feathers starting since this morning...

Since there are only two competing for the food, they may, in fact, be growing up faster.  But there is also the fact that we are seeing so much more with the new cameras, both still and video.  They do seem to have grown a lot today, both in size and the ability to move around.

I think there's a bit of growing faster being only 2, but I think most of it is my perception.  It just seems like the whole tiny fluffball phase lasted about 2-3 days, which it probably does with each individual eyas.  With a scrape of 5 hatched at intervals it would take almost 2 weeks for them all to get through the tiny fluffy stage.  These 2 are doing it all together-only 4 hours difference in age.

!!! Prescott / Ogdensburg bridge hatch!
May 19, 2010 - New York - Prescott-Ogdensburg Bridge
Mark Nash Reports:

Just received great news from Mary Beth in New York state that she has been able to confirm a hatch of at least two hatchlings as of Wednesday May 19th - 2010. They believe that the hatch date was May 17th and confirms that the adults are in fact nesting on the Canadian side!

Hi Mark,
Long time no see. As of today (Wed. 5/19/10) it looks like there are 2 chicks on the Ogdensburg bridge and they have nested on the Canadian side and we wanted to let you know about the chicks in case you are interested in banding them. Hatch date est. to be 5/17/10. I know you are usually very busy at this time but let me know.
Thanks.
Mary Beth

I'm pretty sure this is where Sabrina/Valiant was seen nesting last year...hopefully it's still him!
