13231  Resources / Polls / When will they hatch? on: 10-May-10, 08:27:39 PM
I admit I have NO clue how to set up a poll.  Can I even do it, or is it a moderator thing?  If someone who knows how to do an official poll has time to do one we can transfer our guesses there.  There's also a few guesses on a prior thread that we can include here...

Anyway...the clock is ticking and we are fast approaching the earliest possible hatch date so it's time to make our guesses public!

I think the 1st hatch will be May 17 at 6:30AM

Here's something to try. I've merged all 5 camera views onto a single page. It features one larger view and 5 smaller views underneath. All 6 views update every minute. Click on one of the smaller views to make it display in the larger view. Click on the larger view to pop up a window that contains a full size picture that you can download.

Let me know what you think.

Cool!  notworthy Home at last & it works perfectly!

At least in firefox...same problem I had at work in IE...but it's IE6 here too...I never use it so I never bothered to update it  Embarrassed

Can't your "evil" work puter be upgraded? Do you actually use it for work? If so, then maybe you should as for a newer one! NO? I know  stupid question. Sorry.

I'm sure if you "specify" that you need to keep an eye on the falcons, they will greatly "OBLIGE"  ???  devil

sorry ASK not should as my K sometimes doesn't workkkkk

I actually don't use web-browser internet for work...all my stuff is server based with direct port-to-port internet transmission.  It's stable & reliable for what I need to do, which is actually more important to me than fancy whizz-bang.  Which is why I'm on the end of the list for a new computer.

The thing that actually worries me is they've been ramping up the web filters lately-the old Yahoo group is blocked most of the time as "social networking".  So far Rfalconcam has been running under the radar...no flags to Big Brother yet.  If I ask for anything extra I'll probably cut off my nose to spite my face...

[That was different. I was fixing an IE7 issue, and it just happened to fix the IE6 problem too. I don't have IE6 so there is no way I can diagnose and repair this bug.

The old pages will be kept around for awhile. Of course, if we enable the 6th camera someday, it won't be on the old pages.

Ahhhh!  Didn't realize the prior fix was happenstance!  As long as I'm not cam-less altogether I'm happy!
13237  Rochester Falcons / Rfalconcam Website News / Re: Testing a new way to display our camera views on: 10-May-10, 09:22:29 AM

I'm sure it's an IE 6 issue. Not much I can do about it.

PS. No flash means you're SOL for streaming video sites.

I had a feeling that would be the answer...but you managed to find something to fix the menu buttons issue in IE6, so maybe you'll find something in your reading.  Hopefully you'll be keeping the current views as well so I can at least see that...

I know about the streaming thing...no KGallery either...

It's not working at all on my evil work 'puter...just spinning wheels all in a row at the bottom of the page...and clicking on them (right click-open in another window...auto-new-window not happening) just opens another page just like it.

I'm sure it will be fine at home, but I know I'm not the only one with an ancient computer (some here are even still dialing in with a modem)...my evil details are IE 6.0, Win 2K, no flash player, limited java upgrades due to other program needs...etc., etc....

Some assume the mother is a daughter or granddaughter of Pale Male & Lola due to her coloring, but no way to know for sure.

I found a report at Urban Hawks  Bruce Yolton's blog...

Sad News At Riverside - May 8, 2010

In the high wind late today, the Riverside Park nest was destroyed and all three eyasses perished. I have not been to the nest site yet, so all I know is second hand.  Reports from fellow hawk watchers say the eyasses were already dead when they were found among the remains of the nest, so they died quickly.

The mother was seen looking where the nest had been, and then flew off.  The remains of the nest are on the ground, which includes lining material and a half eaten pigeon. After a day or two expect the parents to rebuild the nest, although it is likely that this replacement will not be used until next year, if not at all.

Leslie Day reminded me that two years ago, those eyasses also perished the day before Mother's Day. This family seems to catch all the bad breaks.

This is just another reminder of the high mortality rate for Red-tailed Hawk babies. Over 70% die in their first year.

I don't know about normal, but I have seen that once.  In 2006 when Mariah was injured we lost 2 eyases shortly after hatching.  At one point one of them had crawled away from the pile and Kaver picked it up like that and put it back in the pile, but it died shortly after.

Now, I'm not saying that there's anything wrong at UB...they might do it regularly & we just don't see it...

Ei, didn't he also fly off and moved an Eyas to the front of the nest box? Remember we were all shocked and it was pouring and the baby was getting soaked? Oy....what day. I'll never forget.

Yes, that was an awful day. But as sad as it was, Kaver did an outstanding job that year. For those new here, Rhea Mae was one of the 3 that made it.

And "Sabrina" who turned out to be a tiercel...last seen nesting in Ogdensburgh (if I recall correctly).

The other question regards how he moved the chicks, by grabbing the back of they eyas's neck in his mouth, lifting the eyass and moving it to the other side of the pile.   Like a cat would move a kitten.   I never saw this before!

Is this normal or unusual?
