2/10/16: From what we can tell, it appears the eggs were left uncovered the entire evening and are now no longer viable. We saw two adults on the nest together as recently as Monday, but a cam watcher did see images ( ! No longer available) that seemed to indicate an intruder around the nest. We'll update the web log on Wednesday night. At least there's still time to re-clutch...bad luck at this nest the past few years...

From FB..maybe bad news I've been putting off writing this post. After eight years, and hundreds of hours of watching, fretting, assisting, talking about and sharing 'our' owls with the world, the tide has turned. Weeks ago, I walked into my room and saw PPO standing on the balcony railing. She let me get up closer to her as she stood - terribly thin and barely able to draw a breath. I called Allan who came up and saw her and listened to her breathing labour. PPO flew to the neighbour's roof before we could catch her and we could still hear her struggling to draw a breath. Moments later, she flew off. We haven't seen her since. Pappa is in the territory, hooting alone on the rooftops. At night, I see him fly around and keep looking for a second owl. We alerted all our neighbours and have asked them to look out for PPO. Nobody has seen her. I'm hoping - perhaps against hope - that she has somehow split from Pappa for a while (perhaps with the little chick) and she will return soon enough. If I hadn't heard her, and seen what she looked like, I would definitely be thinking this. The ugly truth is that the longer she is away, the less likely this scenario is. I haven't given up hope and I ask that you all don't too. I'm glad she came back to say goodbye to her people....fly free PPO!

1/25/16: Egg Alert! We have our first egg of 2016! We have noticed that the mother has been leaving it exposed a good bit. We're hoping this is just delayed incubation, which the parents sometimes do with the first egg to ensure the eggs hatch closer together. If another egg is coming, it should be here in about three days.

Personally, I think Tyson would be a super name for one of our falcons. I hope we can somehow influence this! Let's keep this in mind when we're asked for nominations for a name to be chosen by the members of Rfalconcam.

This Little Girl Has Been Feeding Crows Since She Was 4. Now They Bring Her Gifts To Say Thankyou. By Evie Zimmerman Eight-year-old Gabi Mann lives in Seattle. She has a very special group of friends who regularly lavish her with small gifts in return for the kindness she has been showing them since she was four years old. Only this group of friends isn't made up of her peers, instead it consists of the local crow population! Gabi was 4 years old when she began to feed the crows in her neighbourhood... ...As the crows finished their food, small trinkets began to appear on their feeding platform - Trinkets just big enough to be carried in a bird's mouth. The cams were knocked out and destroyed by a storm last year and it's estimated the cost to replace will be in the $4000 range. They don't have any fund raisers like we do so now they're trying to figure out how to raise the money. Hopefully they can find a way to get the money to replace it.
Kris, you must be psychic. I was just about about to ask these questions. The only news I see on the Syracuse nest site is on this forum. There is a Facebook page for them...that's where we get our info from. When Suzanne & Don from Ithaca visit there they do post here.

Question...do we have sound capability at the Powers nest box?
Channel 4 has audio. Channel 3 doesn't because I forgot to bring a cable adapter with me when I replaced the camera Friday. Channel 3 audio will be restored when I return to the Powers Building Tuesday. I probably haven't noticed because channel 4 has been offline most mornings when I check so I only run channel 3.
