So I must say that my favorite falcons are Mariah, Kaver, and their son, Havoc. I loved watching M&K and their offspring when they nested on the Kodak Tower. My office has a view of the former nest box and High Falls. Keep up the good work, and I hope to come out of lurkdom and into watching mode this Spring Sue (Bess) I always enjoyed your posts of what you could see from the Button Factory! Good luck with the move...hopefully you'll have good views from there!

I began watching in 2007 I think. A friend referred me to a falconcam in downtown San Francisco, watching a pair named George and Gracie raising their brood at a monitored nest box. The City of San Jose got involved with the Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group and their biologist, Glenn Stewart, who was the man I had seen on the San Francisco cam doing the banding. An agreement was reached, a falconcam installed, and the rest is history. Hope I haven't expounded too much; probably feeling the need to catch up from not posting! I post on the bay area forum about the happenings in Rochester, and refer people to this forum and falconcam all the time. It's great to feel always welcomed here! Oh yes, Happy Valentine's Day tomorrow too! Debbie And happy Valentines day to you too! I remember watching George & Gracie and the year the falconcam started in San Jose. It seemed like I had more time to watch all the cams back then. Now I seem to only have enough time for Rochester. There's never too much chatter here, in my humble opinion!

Thanks folks!
So, what do you think? Are you okay with me staying on as mod/admin "in name only"?
Cheers Baerbel
Happy Birthday & congratulations on the nest box! And I, for one, have no problem at all with you staying on as an admin in name only with the occasional visit to say Hi! I wish I had the energy do do half as much as you do!

I really have had enough. Once again the road crews did a totally awful job...4 wheel drive was 4 wheel skid the whole way in to work today. With an idiot on my bumper the whole way.
I suppose I should be grateful I got here in one piece. But I am really really tired of it...
If you move to Rochester you'll have to get used to a lot more snow than where you live now Ei! It's not the amount of snow at all. It's the road crews not doing their job. It was only 6 inches of light fluffy snow. No salt no sand no plow...nothing! Mountains in the middle of the road where people had plowed out their driveways...not even touched by a road plow. If they cancel school they don't even try to plow. It never used to be like this. The past 2 years have been horrible. It seems ever since they started using brine on the road before a storm they don't bother plowing until well after 9. Coming home was a relative breeze...and there was another 6 inches after I left this morning. A friend used to have a side job plowing driveways. She gave it up this year. She missed too many jobs last year because she couldn't get to them through the unplowed roads.

well, then - one more: Oh my word! Look how young Catherine is there! She's a beautiful young lady now...all grown up and flying planes with her Dad!

Mis-measured here looking out the window-it was actually 10 inches!
The roads were slippery & snow covered but passable. My only problem was the guy riding my bumper the whole way. He didn't back off even after he almost hit me when I had to slow down for some deer crossing the road! Yutz!
But here safe & sound. Everyone take care out there!

I knew there was another one famously obviously mis-banded, just couldn't remember who.
And I seem to recall we were pretty sure Jemison was female too.
I thought it was the other way around..Jemison was banded female, thought to be male. My brain is feeling fuzzy on this one. I just know I have Jemison listed as female on the family tree.

Aconcagua was banded as a male, but was obviously a female. She was the youngest (just a small white fluff ball) when banded and grew to be the largest that year before leaving Rochester. She will forever be listed as a male on the official list, unless she turns up somewhere in the future. Most they get right, some they get wrong. I knew there was another one famously obviously mis-banded, just couldn't remember who. And I seem to recall we were pretty sure Jemison was female too.

Wait......are you saying you are not sure if 99 is a male?? Um, 2 females would not be hanging around each other! Now I'm confused or is Billie a male? No. MAK said the gender of 99 needed to be changed. I'm saying the official NYSDEC banding information that lists 99 as a female cannot be changed until it is proven that 99 is a male as we presume him to be. The same that WE all believed Sabrina was a male fromthe time he was in the nest. NYSDEC would not change the gender until he had produced eyases and was not the one to lay the eggs.
