Thanks for the replies.  Here is Cornell's answer to my email:

 This is a Red-shouldered Hawk.

Well I'll be dipped. It's not one I even thought of. Thanks!

I have inquired with Roc the Day and YES an organization can win the RocStar bonus twice.  All those who donated during the hour are eligible for the drawing and the organization they choose gets the bonus.  So keep on Roc'in!!!

Sweet!

Congratulations!!!!  We won the RocStar of the hour at 1:00 today.  That's an additional $500 on top of the $757 donated so far.  As for the early morning awards, unfortunately we did not win any.  So far we are at $1257 and counting!!

 clap

It may have been buried...can Rfalconcam win the hourly ROCstar bonus more than once?

It was preselected a couple of times, but not other times. But I don't think it will let you proceed without picking someone.

And there are 2 rfalconcams listed. I just chose the first one. I didn't think it would matter since it's a random drawing this year, but if there's also a cumulative component...

I missed 8-9 but I'm back on track now...dividing my total up throughout the day...maybe one of us will get lucky too...

And Round 1 is over. Thank you to everyone who stayed up to donate. Hopefully one of us won the random drawing to give Rfalconcam another $500.

Anyone up for Round 2?

Done!

Less than 2 Days!

OK...let's commit to a push between Midnight and 1AM and those who can, a secondary push between 1AM & 2AM since 1AM seems to be the dividing line...then whatever everyone can do the rest of the day.

That's what I was thinking, Coop or Sharpie.  Was it dove or crow size?

http://static.birds.cornell.edu/pfw/AboutBirdsandFeeding/accipiterIDtable.htm

The one time I actually saw a sharpie live I was astounded how small they actually are.

Sharpie is a good possibility too, though the tail looks rounded rather than straight...hard to tell for sure.

Immature Cooper's Hawk is my first thought

Immature Northern Goshawk is another thought

Though the tail banding is more distinct on your sister's bird

Anyone else have any thoughts?

2 days 6 hours to go! Get those alarms set for early Wednesday morning!

Do you all want to do a push between 2 & 3AM?

How did we do it last year? I know it was after midnight! I can't even remember! I know I donated in spurts!!
Last year was different. Our ultimate goal is to spread out our donations once per hour...one drawing per hour for the bonus. BUT if those doing one major donation do it all within one hour there's a better chance one of us will be picked.

These are the most migratory of the world's falcons, the adults heading to Patagonia in southern South America for the winter before returning to its high Arctic breeding grounds in Greenland on an annual basis. That is a minimum of a 20 thousand mile annual commute and some huge open water crossings!!

Then there is the breed that makes the huge open water crossing from Rochester to Toronto... once.

It's the wafting savory scent of poutine...

...though I have often wondered what savory scent is wafting the other direction for so many to make the crossing TO Rochester
