IndyFroona's mate migrates; she does not. For the last few years, she has spent much of the winter at the University of Milwaukee nest with the resident male there, Hoffman. Hoffman's long-time mate, who is unbanded, also migrates. At least once, in the spring, there was a territorial battle in which the Milwaukee female reclaimed her nest. In other years, it seems that IndyFroona simply returns home to her own nest in the spring.

Now that is an interesting tid-bit! Learn something new about pefas every day!

Facebook bans Christmas Island's juvenile boobies birdwatching tourism ad
When the Christmas Island tourism board decided to promote its lovely juvenile boobies, it never thought it would have Facebook's pervert police on its case. The proposed promotion was a plan to advertise the island's annual Bird 'n' Nature Week, and its population of endangered booby birds.

But the social media site claimed the promoted ad of a baby brown booby with the accompanying text - "Some gorgeous shots here of some juvenile boobies'' - breached decency guidelines, and removed the offending picture. An appeal from Christmas Island marketing bosses to Facebook still failed to get the ad passed.

"We presumed our original advert was blocked automatically so we appealed to Facebook directly who re-affirmed the campaign was banned due to the sexual language, particularly the use of the word `boobies','' said Linda Cash, marketing manager of the Christmas Island Tourism Association.

Three species - the Brown Booby, the Red-footed Booby and the Abbott's Booby, live on the island, 580km south of Java, where the latter is exclusively found.

Scientists at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute’s Center for Conservation and Evolutionary Genetics confirmed that our giant panda cub is female! A paternity analysis showed that the Zoo’s panda Tian Tian is the cub’s father. Scientists also confirmed the second, stillborn cub Mei Xiang delivered on August 24 was a female and also sired by Tian Tian. The cubs were fraternal twins.

Zoo scientists used two tests to confirm the sex of both cubs. The first test was developed by scientists in China and analyzes a fragment of the zinc finger protein gene. The second test, also using a shorter fragment of the same zinc finger protein gene, was developed by SCBI scientists and veterinarians. They used the second test to verify the results of the initial test.

Looking for Hawkeye?

I'm guessing this is the Hawkeye plant?

I could have saved you the trouble.  I saved one of the Pigott shots (I think the best one) on the day she was at the nestbox and submitted it to Carol last week.

LOL! But I just know my luck...if I hadn't said anything no one would have had it or thought to submit it.

OK-made my choice-and saved them all-thanks.

So...since I missed the memo about the photo archive only staying live for 90 days...

Did anyone save the actual full size high resolution picture of Pigott at the nestbox around 12:30 PM 04/04/2013?

That's the one I was looking for to submit for the calendar.

I have it. I will send it to Carol

Thanks! Donna sent me the one she had saved but the file size looks smaller than I'd expect.

There are pix of Pigott from 12:21 to 12:34. Which one(s) did you want to submit?

I don't really know since I haven't seen them since April. Choose the most calendar-worthy one.

I have restored the Main Camera archive for that time period. You may choose your favorite.

Thanks.
