So I was browsing around CPF looking for a nest location and I found this post in their sightings across Canada section...

WHITBY, ONTARIO:
Saturday March 3, 2007
John Bennett reports: I was fortunate to sight this Peregrine falcon on Sat Mar 3rd. The location was Halls road in Whitby just before Noon.

Mark Nash comments: With many thanks to the NYDEC, we have been able to put a name to the juvenile peregrine falcon that has been spotted and photographed by John Bennett. A huge thank you to John for the great photos that he was able to shoot. The young juvenile peregrine falcon’s identity has been confirmed by its colour leg band number as being a female peregrine that was produced in Rochester New York at the Kodak nest site last year - 2006, and her name is Rhea Mae. She has two other sisters hatched at the same nest site last year.

I don't recall reading that before. The first report I remember was when she took over the Sheraton site from Wind in 2008. But I wasn't a never leaves the house then!  gum

I'm pretty sure Whitby was also a sighting location for Linn when she arrived in Canada. Or was it Quest? Or both? Memory ain't what it used to be...

Anybody planning to attend a New Year's Eve Chat again this year?

We had 2 chats going last year: one on Ustream's Social Stream during the fireworks show and another on the Forum's chat.

How would I take part? Our New Year happens 5 hours prior to yours... but I HATE to miss anything fun!!!

I meant the Forum Chat.  The U Stream one doesn't work on my venerable computer, I'm hoping the Forum one still does  pray

Carol...Forum chat for sure! I'm sure some will be over on ustream as well. We're good at multitasking around here!

Bobbi...We'll have to plan something for our European members earlier in the evening...

If they're anything like the ones I saw in my yard you have to be quick. Many years ago I had a flock land one day. They stripped all the berries in about 5 minutes, took off together and were never seen by me again.

I don't get it.  But that's okay.  I am a
little dense at times.

Dogs this smart deserve a home.
Every year, the SPCA need to find homes for thousands of dogs just like Porter -- dogs who have been abused, abandoned, or just forgotten. Our dogs may be a motley bunch but they're all smart and they're all lovable. So please don't forget about them. Adopt them.

[forgive me if this has been posted before]

Your pics and video are fascinating, Dumpsterkitty! They do look like Snow Geese. I don't know much about them, but have read that Snow Geese fly in bunched flocks or U formations. Some of the birds in your pics are in V formations, so those may be Ross's Geese, which are very similar to Snow Geese, but smaller, and tend to travel with Snow Geese.

Interesting. I'll have to take a closer look to see if there's any noticeable size difference in any of them.

Donna  or  MAK,
do you have a URL for the Funny Talking Animals video?
I would like to send it to some friends.  It is funny!
Thanks,

On any of the youtube videos just click on the youtube on the bottom right & it will open the original in a separate window. Then click on share to get the actual url...now let's see if I can do this without embedding them again...

It seems to work within a quote...

I just read an update from the falconer who was working with Marina, Haya's daughter, who wasn't releaseable and was put into a raptor breeding facility.

http://stewartfalcon.wordpress.com/2012/

Glenn Stewart is also the director of SCPBRG, the UC Santa Cruz group currently running the research behind San Francisco & San Jose cams. He was also deeply involved in the original peregrine recovery effort. Marina's father, Hiko, was hatched at the San Jose nest.
