I emailed CPF, of course...just got an answer...
Yes, we have been watching them very closely indeed. I was up to Harlequin last week and spent a few hours documenting their progress and snapped some photos. Our provincial wildlife resources gave them the permits that they need to remove the nest box so that they can carry on with the repairs.
There are several steps in the work with three different contractors and three different trades involved. Each ledge is prepped, (scraped and sanded, then brushed off). Then the mortar is applied to the entire ledge, (base, sides, back/rear, and above under the overhang/roof). This must be allowed to dry before the sealer coat is done,, (another step). Then we’re told that the aluminum contractor comes in to clad various parts of the ledges with aluminum cladding. (Not quite sure just what they are cladding), but this contractor will not come in until all of the mortar and the sealer coating is completed.
The nest box was to be taken to the roof and will not return until the aluminum work is completed.
They must have been in very early, as we noticed that the nest box was gone by 9am.

Please excuse the dirty windows...they all hide when I go outside... So...is this fellow a purple finch or a house finch? I really didn't question it-figured it was an average house finch-until I saw the female. Female above Female right She just seems so much stripier than I recall female house finches being that I started to doubt myself. Opinions? Thanks!
