!!! Holy O’Connor! May 23, 2012 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre Kathy Reports:
So for years I’ve read Tracey’s updates on this new female O’Connor that described how fierce and wild she was and for weeks now I’ve been seeing this quiet, docile …albeit rather large female just napping or laying around the ledge hanging out with her kids.
Fast forward to 15 minutes ago while out on lunch break. I saw Jack perched on the cam and sure enough O”Connor’s head in the nest box just hanging out. All of a sudden she rips out of the nestbox screaming her head off and I turn my head and spot a Turkey Vulture flying right over the condo tower across the ledge.
She just attacked that bird with a vengeance and chased it right down the street, …pausing only to gain more altitude and dive back on it. At one point she drove it right into the side of the condo towers down the street and I saw it hit the side of the building and drop altitude significantly. I thought he was a goner until I saw him flying low and straight out of the territory and she was still on him until I couldn’t see anymore!
I’m thinking now this is a girl that doesn’t waste energy..she saves it for a worthy opponent! Posted on May 23, 2012 1:12 pm Observation for Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre

May 22, 8:19 PM – Everything is back to normal, although the owlets are currently lying around the floor of the box, resting after their big, fun, fascinating and scary adventure. (Sounds like anthropomorphism, I know, but I don’t think it is.) Fear not, they’ll be back to normal when the night’s food deliveries begin. And, of course, whenever they leave (and that could start tonight – when I brought the box down, one owlet climbed straight into the entryway and jump/flapped out to me) they have an “owlet rail” from which to plan that first big jump. Photos and video of their adventure will be available sometime tonight.

The best age reference guide around is a collaboration between CPF & (the then) Kodak Birdcam http://www.peregrine-foundation.ca/info/ageguide.htmlfeaturing Freedom (Archer's father) & Isis (M&K 2002) This is where Q&K's youngsters are... As they approach two weeks of age, the chicks are beginning to sit upright more often, but still lean on each other, or against the nest box much of the time. The very beginnings of wing feather development are also seen around this time. Around day 15, the chicks are beginning to enter the "hunchback" phase, during which they are often seen in the pose above, with their feet splayed out in front of them and their head angled forward.

I'm guessing 2 girls on the outside, one boy in the middle...middle child has dainty BYF compared to the other 2!!! Nice pic Ei!! I think you are correct about the gender! question: why do their feathers look different? Coming in differently or are they younger than some that we see banded in Rochester? They are cute..just the same! It's a combination of they're still a week younger than Rhea Mae's bunch-their second down isn't completely in yet-and the camera resolution is awful. Plus the picture is taken through a window. They're perfectly normal at the gawky dinosaur stage!
